Moreover, The New York Times used to be called the Gray Lady of the American newspapers and this was due to the fact that the sobriquet implied a certain stateliness, a sense of responsibility and the possession of high virtue. The publisher for New York Times is A.G Sulzberger.
 
Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones both founded the New York Times. Both Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones were American journalists. Moreover, Henry Jarvis was also a member of the New York State assembly.
