         <title>Overview of Retention and Transfer</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>According to D. Sousa (2022), learning and retention are different things. One can learn something and keep it in their working memory long enough for a test but if they don't give meaning to it it will not access their long term memory. </p><p><br></p><p>Practice and sleep play apart in the rate of retention and transfer. Practicing the skill helps the students apply their information in a meaningful way. If your brain and body is lacking the right amount of sleep, it will not be able to consolidate your memories and will be forgotten (Sousa, 2022). </p>]]></description>

         <title>Trauma and the brain</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>When a person experiences trauma, the brain and memory are affected. </p><p><br></p><p>According to Psych Central (2021), when a person experiences something traumatic the brain shuts down in a way and works at a lower level activating stress hormones which is the light or flight instinct. </p><p><br></p><p>People who have experience trauma are more on edge uneasy and fell high levels of anxiety. </p><p><br></p><p>The Hippocampus is smaller in people who have experienced trauma in their lives which is a part of the brain that deals with memory and problem solving. </p><p><br></p><p>The prefrontal Cortex is less active making decision making harder for people who have experienced trauma. </p><p><br></p><p>Lebow,&nbsp;H.&nbsp;I.          <title>Strategies to improve memory </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Here are strategies to improve memory retention and or transfer in the educational setting:</p><p><br/></p><p>Chunking: Remembering/ learning small amounts of information at a time such as how to spell the word beautiful, remember beau-ti-ful or to remember a phone number only focus on 3-4 digits at a time till you are able to recall better. </p><p><br/></p><p>Repetition: Repeating a skill or information daily makes it easier to recall the information</p><p><br/></p><p>Self-testing: Testing yourself repeatedly to see what you can recall can enhance memory and recall (Psychology Today, 2024). </p><p><br/></p><p>Sleep: Young learners need enough sleep for their brains to transfer information into memories. Young learners should get about nine hours of sleep for their brains to be able to move all the information into memories whether working or long term. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Brain when memories are established</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This is what happens to the brain when memories are established: </p><p><br></p><p>Long-term memory: is processed by the hippocampus to recall important events or people.
