In these two chapters, Doctor Thorne learns that his niece's other uncle, Roger Scatcherd, has made him the executor of his estate. Inside of his will he has stipulated that if something should happen to his son, his only heir, then the bulk of his estate, which includes $200K, will go to his sister's first born child, which just so happens to be Doctor Thorne's niece Mary. Doctor Thorne spends the bulk of the remaining chapters going back and forth debating on whether he should tell Roger about this development.

The way Trollope continues to add dimension to the story through multiple plot lines always impresses me, but this one in particular I was surprised by. I knew that Mary would need to inherit in some way so that she could be with her obvious future man, Frank Gresham the younger, but I truly did not know how it was going to happen. I am curious to know if Roger Scatcherd, her unknown uncle, will come to be known to her or if he will die before she or Doctor Thorne can make him aware of the situation.

The first chapter of any book should be engaging. The first chapter of this book is simply the into to the story as well as character backstory. The story takes place in a poor trailer park.

The overall writing of the story is easily interpreted but has a grungy tone. The overall setting was poor and negative however, the narrator had a positive outlook and was inspiring.

The main character has yet to be named but, has an outstanding resilience to be different from his mother who was a drug addict even during birth. The main character refuses to believe that the fate of people is decide by where they come from. The story will be different from those that have come before it.

Chapter two had a lot more sustenance than the first. The main character (Damon) is introducing the tone and setting that the story is going to be taking place in greater detail. You quickly learn that his mother is ultimately useless as she doesn't raise him or take care of him. Instead the old lady that found him when his mom was giving birth does (Ms.Peggot). She is also the grandmother of Damon's best friend Maggot.

The setting and origin of the main character opens up a lot of plot lines as to how the story could go. Additionally I don't know if the book is fictional or non-fictional which adds an extra layer of fun to the read. As for the plot so far there is not much to go off of but the title of the book was dropped as the main characters nick name (Demon Copperhead).

Damen is most likely to go through some pretty significant character development pertaining to family or jealousy in some way. I only think this because he envy's his friend maggot who has many cousins that show him affection for no reason. It is still to early to tell.

Chapter 3 only introduced the new boyfriend of the mother of Damon. Chapter 4 had more story to it. The Peggot's were going on a trip to Knoxville to visit their aunt and Damon was invited to go with. There they meet Humvee's daughter. The story has dead people in it that no one talks about for some reason. The trip is overall pretty normal but from the perspective of Damon the city is lonely compared to the country side.

The story still has little to offer I don't like the mother in the story personally because Damon has to take care of her most the time. The book is still in the early stages so I'm going to hold out and wait for something cool to happen.

The introduction of the boyfriend is just to show what kind of woman the mother is (her taste in men is horrible). Damon gets to explore his love for the ocean which I think will come back in later in the story.

Stoner got married to Damon's mom while he was gone. This causes a major power struggle between Damon and Stoner because he sucks. After saying strong choice words about people Damon is no longer allowed to hangout with maggot anymore.

I personally don't like Stoner because he is a major A-hole. He causes so many bad things to happen and it makes me not happy. but Damon is in 9th grade now so that's a plus.

This I feel is only the beginning of the downward spiral for Damon. The road ahead has so much despair and I already know it. I suspect that it won't be resolved but I predict that serious loss is coming up.

I had the privilege of reading a part of the book that made me realize that its going to be dark and sad. Some pretty f'd up things happen to Mariah that makes me sad and I don't like this book. She's sexually assaulted by her husband and looses in court to him cause he has a crooked smile.

I definitely had to set the book down a few times in order to read this chapter. I was disturbing least to say and not very family friendly.

This chapter was made to give context on a specific character from the story. I would imagine that the next chapter will start on the present text of Mariah.
