The way Lighting shows he wont give up and put up a fight in order to defend his number one spot stands out to me because it shows that Lighting will do just about anything to be the best and and doesn't give up easily no matter how bad things look for him. In the movie he notices McQueen is losing his reputation as the best so he takes the opportunity to make some money of it and wants him to retire and sell products with McQueen's face and name on them.
