Is the Hive a realistic example of something most teachers would be able to implement in their own classroom?

Is it harder to assess students when so many different modalities are used?

When I was in elementary school, it was in the height of the introduction of personal tech to the classroom. We were given iPads in 1st grade, and then allowed to take them home in 3rd. I saw a lot of familiar things within the readings that I remember my teachers using in my classrooms! I remember doing many comic strips, videos, and making use of just about every app available to me as a student.

At my previous institution, I was in a class specifically focused on education technology (the technology available to educators and how to use it in the classroom to meet a variety of needs), this reminded me a lot of that class and the work that we did.

It is a bit challenging to me to imagine a classroom that involves so much independent/group work where the students are consistently on task and on target with completing their projects. I can imagine a lot of problems arising with that sort of thing, but it must require a lot of monitoring within the groups, and constant check-ins about progress. I would also imagine that the group of students are very imaginative and self-motivated.
