South China Tiger- Population has been decreasing since the 1950s with the last sighting of a South China Tiger being in the early 1970s. They were always seen as "pests" by the chinese government causing them to be hunted. In 1970, there were an estimated 4000 south china tigers throughout central and eastern China. There are now an estimated 20 in the wild and 50 in captivity. They are ranked critically endangered and on the brink of extinction.

Forestry- Cutting down trees has a huge, devastating effect on the environment. As NASA reports, "In addition to the species lost when an area is totally deforested, the plants and animals in the fragments of forest that remain also become increasingly vulnerable, sometimes even committed, to extinction."
Climate Change- Climate change greatly affects the growth of the forests. Warming from higher atmospheric carbon dioxide levels can make growing seasons longer and cause some areas to experience more droughts. Wild fires resulting from warmer weather are also a threat, especially during drought.

Immediately after the crash in the temperate forest of guangzhou, we started collecting different sizes of wood and rocks to build our shelter. We used our tarp to carry heavy objects in and to have as a roof for our shelter. On day two we needed to eat, so we used our hatchet to shape wooden sticks into spears. With our spears we can hunt animals as well as catch fish from the river. During the nights throughout the week, it gets cold, therefore we can use our cigarette lighter and some sticks to build a fire to keep warm. For drinkable water and better tasting food, we can use the can of vegetable. The vegetable oil will make our food taste better and the can can be used to filter and purify river water by boiling it on the fire. For the weeks that follow, we will continue to hunt with out homemade spears and filter water with our metal can. Our shelter will stay put and the tarp will continue to help us with protection from rain. After developping a routine, living in the temperate forest wouldn’t be very difficult.

1. Map of the area: Being stuck in the forest for a long period of time would demand constant resources. A map of the area would help us find close by bodies of water, plains, masses of trees and potential animal habitats.
2. Hatchet: Weapons are necessary for hunting. Our options are the pistol with 10 bullets or a hatchet. We chose the hatchet because of its many uses compared to the pistol. While the pistol is an effective way of killing animals, the hatchet can be used to cut down trees, sharpen wood to make spears to kill animals for food. The spears can kill mammals or fish.
3. Can of Vegetable Oil: We can use the vegetable oil for cooking and the can for filtering water. We will take water from the river or lake and boil it to get drinkable water. We can reuse the can over and over again for this purpose throughout our time in the forest. The actual vegetable oil can be used to make our food taste better.
4. 6x6m Tarp: The tarp will help us with many different things. It can obviously used for shelter, being used as a roof. It can also be used to carry large, dead animals that we hunt and kill for food.
5. 1 Cigarette Lighter: We would need the cigarette lighter for starting our fires.
