Percival is a littlun who is ultimately scared of their situation. Because of this he is constantly crying and fears having to stay on the island for a long period of time. Percival gives off the sense that he is very unstable and needs other people/adults in his life in order to feel secure and safe.

"... Henry and Johnny were throwing sand at Percival who was crying quietly again..." (Golding 67).

Henry is a small boy on the island and he is also distantly related to

the small boy that had the mulberry-marked face. He seems to be easily

distracted and also easily forgets about things. "Henry was surprised by

the plopping sounds in the water. He abandoned the noiseless

transparencies and pointed at the center of the spreading rings like a

setter...Then Henry lost interest in stones and wandered off" (Golding 62).

"...Percival had early crawled into a shelter and stayed there
for two days, talking, singing, and crying..." (Steinbeck 59).

Percival took the loss of civilization the hardest. He was the
only child who had the appropriate and expected reaction to
being stranded, motherless. This shock made it so that little things
set him over the edge, and he was prone to breaking down.

Jack is the head of the coir boys, who have taken up the role of hunters in the group of boys. He may have some kind of mental issue, as he seems very violent in his nature, and constantly wants power.

"[Jack's] mind was crowded with memories; memories of the knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig, knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like a long satisfying drink." (Golding 70)

The youngest boys on the island are labeled as the "littluns". They don't have much say with the older boys except for attending the meetings, which they think are entertaining. They stayed out of the older boys ways, and explore through the island. They live a life of their own, making a pack with each other and comforting each other when they expierenced horrible terrors.

"But otherwise they seldom bothered with the biguns and their passionately emotional and corporate life was their own (Golding 59).

Simon was one of the only sincere biguns on the island. He helps Piggy when nobody else would. Simon actually respects Piggy's sensibility and logic while looking past his phisycal appearance. "Simon, sitting between the twins and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy..." (Golding 74).

rocks to Piggy" (Golding 74). Simon is very considerate and calm.

While every one else on the island is arguing about what they

should do and not listening to each other Simon is doing his best

to create shelters and do as he is told. He puts the other people on

the island before himself and is one of the only people who is nice

to Piggy.

in his eye, but immediately felt bad about it.

SImon is a hard worker that knows what needs to be done, and does not have to be commanded to do something. He is one of the elder boys that has respect for everyone, even Piggy. "' My specs!' He went crouching and feeling over the rocks but Simon, who got there first, found them for him" (Steinbeck 71).

Percival is a little boy who is small, and very scared of what the island holds. The older boys don't take Percival seriously, and he is easily upset. He is about 6 years old, and he is very shy . Percival introduces the "beastie" to the other boys.

" The small boy held out his hands for the conch and the assembly shouted with laughter; at once he snatched back his hands and started to cry." (Golding 35).

Percival may not be the smallest of the little boys yet he may seem that way because he is quite immature and pathetic. He reacts to situations as if he is even younger than he really is. He is always crying and being bullied because of his personality and possibly his appearance. His appearance "had not been very attractive even to his mother" which is surprising because mothers never admit that their children are ugly (Golding 60).

"Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he [Roger] dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life" (Golding 62). Roger is one of the older boys in the novel. In this scene, Roger attempts to show off his authority as a "biggun" by bothering Henry, one of the younger survivors. However, this invisible circle of protection surrounding Henry reminds Roger that it would be inhuman and unsophisticated to hurt someone of younger age. In the end, Roger does not want to harm Henry, he just wants to exercise his superoirty on the island. ~Savannah Ampuero

and a bore. "...Piggy was was an outsider, not only by

Piggy is an innocent, intelligent, and passive character. He often finds himself being teased, but he fails to overcome his insecurities, which decrease his ability to stand up for himself. He is a quiet observer and tries to fit in with the rest of the boys, even when they continuously belittle him.

"Piggy stirred. 'I'll come.' Ralph turned to him. 'You're no good on a job like this.' 'All the same--' 'We don't wan you,' said Jack, flatly. 'Three's enough.' Piggy's glasses flashed. 'I was with him when he found the conch. I was with him before anyone else was.' Jack and the others paid no attention" (Golding 24).

Simon is described as a "small, skinny boy, his

chin pointed, and his eyes so bright they had deceived Ralph into

thinking him delightfully gay and wicked" with a "course

mop of black hair [that] was long and swung down, almost

quiet, observant of the nature around him, and helpful toward

the "littluns," retrieving fruit for them that they would not otherwise

be able to reach.

Sam and Eric are identical twins who always seem to be smiling. They bring cheer wherever they go and do most things in unison. Since no one can tell them apart, they just call the Samneric. "They breathed together, the grinned together, they were chunky and vital" (Golding 19).

majority of them together" (Golding 74). Obviously

Maurice has a certain level of intelligence. He was able to

bring the group together, helping to prevent further

conflict between Jack and Ralph. he Could be a leader, but he

probably does not have the desire to do so.

Piggy is very intelligent, but is often ignored. He lacks the leadership skills to

make himself heard, and Ralph is usually the one who voices his ideas. He is

viewed as an outsider, and does not hold the respect of the other children.

"'I got the conch,' said Piggy indignantly. 'You let me speak!'

'The conch doesn't count on top of the mountain,' said Jack, 'so you shut up,'" (Golding, 42).

He lacks the skills to be a leader and therefore the boys laugh at him, don't listen to h, and make him an outsider. Jack is a control hungry aggressive boy. Jack has a high temper, and is naturally irritated by everything he doesn't enjoy.

Percival is a minuscule child in size but has a vast system of complex emotions. He is shy and is prone to crying, as well as not being a very talkative boy. Percival is not god-looking and is described as being the color of a mouse (fitting because he is as small as one). "...the other two were Percival and Johnny, the smallest boys on the island. Percival was mouse-colored and had not been very attractive even to his mother..." (Golding 60).

He has his choir that follows his orders, and he has a bad relationship with Piggy. He has a bad temper and sometimes disagrees with Ralph, but can be seen as the second leader.
