Hi there! I’m Elyza Lizette L. Reyes, but feel free to call me Ly, Ely, or Ellie—whatever feels right. I’m 18, born and raised in Davao City on February 8, 2007 (shoutout to all February babies), and I still can’t wrap my head around turning 18 soon. My favorite number is 8 because, duh, it’s my birth date, and I’ve decided it’s my lucky charm. My hobbies? Watching movies and shows, then rewatching them like a goldfish because I somehow forget all the plot twists every time! I also like foods such as pasta and desserts or sweets such as frozen yogurt topped with lots of cheesecake and corn flakes (frogurt is my go to froyo place).

These two cuties are my babies, Butchukoy, my dog, and Mingyaw, my cat. They’re both boys and both bring so much joy into my life. Aside from my friends and family, they’re my safe haven, the ones I’d do anything for, and the ones who make me happy. Sure, they can be a handful sometimes, especially with how makulit and adventurous they can be, but I love them both with all my heart and can’t imagine life without them. This is the story of how we got them, Mingyaw was the first to come into our lives. We were asked to take care of him while his owner was sick, and after months of bonding, we ended up adopting him. A few weeks later, we adopted Butchukoy. He was a stray that I wasn’t too fond of at first (I had a fear of dogs because of past bad experiences), but my dad really liked him. After Butchukoy got sent to the pound, my dad rescued him, and over time, I grew close to him. Now, Butchukoy is the first dog I’ve ever really connected with. As for Mingyaw, I’ve always been cautious with cats, but now I’m completely comfortable with both of them. They make me so happy, and I’d give them the world. I’m so grateful they’re part of my life.

The picture shows my friends and family, who are my safe haven. I feel comfortable and at peace when I’m with them, and they've always been there for me in countless ways. Their love and support have shaped me into who I am today, and they’re the ones who motivate me to keep going, especially when I feel like giving up. They make me laugh, smile, and most importantly, they make me feel valued. They’re my number one supporters, and I’m theirs. I honestly wouldn’t be where I am now without them.

Some of my all-time favorite cartoons are Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, The Owl House, The Amazing World of Gumball, and We Bare Bears. Now you’re probably thinking, “Elyza, you’re almost 18, why are you still into these kids’ shows?” Well, for me, they’re a piece of my childhood, and honestly, they’re part of how I’m healing my inner child. Plus, I just love how these shows tackle real-life issues in such a subtle, creative way. They’re more than just kids’ cartoons, they’ve taught me things and made me think in ways most mainstream shows never could.

The picture above shows a few of my favorite movies such as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Marvel's Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fear Street, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, White Chicks, and Final Destination 2. I love these movies because they have a perfect mix of excitement, fantasy, and great stories. They draw me in with their unique characters and worlds. Some make me think deeply, while others are just pure fun. Each one hits me differently, whether it’s for adventure, suspense, or laughter.

I spend about 14 hours a day on my phone, mostly scrolling through media. I enjoy it because it helps me relate to things, escape reality, and express myself. The media I consume shapes how I see the world, especially when I hear different opinions about our society's issues. It has changed my mindset and behavior, helping me understand different perspectives. But when I really think about it, I realize it’s not the healthiest habit. I’ve gotten so used to having my phone for entertainment and paying for things that it feels like I can’t function without it. I even find myself scrolling while doing other things, and sometimes I can’t focus on just one task. I don’t spend enough time outside anymore. I think it’s time for me to step back and set limits with my screen time. I want to make more space for activities that help me disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the real one. Maybe I’ll start by scheduling some phone-free hours or just spending more time outside because I'm now aware that I need to find balance between the two worlds. Additionally, the media can be a great source of learning and information, but it can also be misleading if we're not careful. That's why I’m trying to be more mindful of what I consume online. Instead of believing everything I see, I make sure to analyze it first before I believe or form any conclusions right away. I also realized that too much media without real interactions isn’t healthy, so I’m trying to balance both better.

I’m all about shows that balance humor with deeper moments, so I tend to watch a lot of sitcoms, psychological horror, thrillers, zombies, supernatural stuff, and mysteries. Some of my favorites include Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, WandaVision, Hannibal, The Good Place, Yellowjackets, Strangers from Hell, The Walking Dead , and Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. I love how these shows can make me laugh one minute and keep me hooked the next. It’s that perfect mix of lighthearted fun and suspense that always keeps me coming back for more.
