1955: Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This raised immediate turmoil, and caused her arrest moments after, for "violating the terms of segregation laws." Reports dismissed her being too tired to move to the back, and jailed her immediately. This was one of the most crucial opening acts for the Civil Rights Movement, and all of the progress that would soon follow.

1955: The Daughters of Bilitis was founded, the first Lesbian organization in the United States. This group started as a social circle, but transformed into a political organization to win basic acceptance for lesbian rights in America.

Over the decades, women have faced many challenges. In this movement, women fought for reproductive and education rights, representation in male-dominated industries like government positions. To this day, women still do not receive equal pay to their male counterparts. Women also do not have full reproductive rights in all states, such as Texas which is in the process of signing the "Heartbeat Bill" into law. Despite several challenges today, the Women's Rights Movement has made extraordinary strides in achieving freedoms for women.
