Josef Mengele, the notorious doctor of Auschwitz, is known as the "Angel of Death" for a good reason. When he was young, he was very attracted to fascism. He joined the SA, a Nazi paramilitary group, in 1923, and in 1937. He experimented on 3,000 children—twins and nontwins and only about 200 were alive when the camp was liberated by the Soviet army on January 27, 1945.

Adolf Eichman was pursued by Simon Wiesenthal. Throughout the 1950s, Simon Wiesenthal continued to hunt for Adolf Eichmann.

The Klarsfelds are Serge Klarsfeld and his wife, Beate. They were determined to find Klaus Barbie, who had terrorized Vichy France and ordered the deportations of 7,000 Jews to the concentration camps and the killing of another 4,000 non-Jews. The Klarsfelds tracked him down to Peru, where he was posing as a businessman. Later he fled to Bolivia, where he was apprehended. The campaign to bring Barbie to justice culminated in his extradition to France in 1983; he was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.

(This is Serge and Beate Klarsfeld)

At the end of the war in 1945, Eichmann was arrested and interned by U.S. forces, but he soon escaped. He hid in Germany for some time before he fled to Argentina in 1950. Eichmann was charged on 15 counts—eight for crimes against the Jewish people, four for crimes against other groups, and one each for membership in the SS, the SD, and the Gestapo. More than 100 witnesses testified against him. Eichmann did not deny the facts. He simply claimed he was following orders. However, the court found him guilty on all 15 counts and sentenced him to death on December 15, 1961. On May 31, 1962, Eichmann was hanged at Israel's Ramleh Prison

In spite of many attempts to track him down and bring him to justice, Mengele succeeded in living undiscovered for 35 years. He relocated from Argentina to Paraguay and then to Brazil, where he died in 1979. He suffered a stroke while swimming and died. His death remained unknown to the world until the 1980s when Nazi hunters located his grave. His family acknowledged that he was buried there and turned over his diaries and letters to investigators. Even so, the Nazi Hunters still suspected that he was still alive and his death was a hoax. In 1992, DNA was extracted from the bones and matched with DNA in blood samples from Mengele's son, confirming his identity.
