I. Research
  1. In groups students assigned to research on the Plague, 1918 Spanish Flu and the present pandemic- history, medical advancement, response to the epidemic and pandemics, the reaction of societies (thinking skills, self-management, communication).
  2. Students in groups can create padlets or google slides as a timeline of events and medical discoveries and share (Learner Portfolio).
II. Readings:
  1. Students read literary and non-literary texts (thinking skills. self-management).
  2. Close reading and annotations (thinking skills, communication)
  3. Students select concepts for discussion and connect them to quotes from their readings (thinking skills, intertextuality, time and space)
Explore Concepts of:
culture (values, beliefs, time and place), perspective (point of view, bias, interpretation), and identity (the individual- growth/development/human condition)Reinforcement instruction must be followed up by the teacher.
III. Viewings:
Note-taking on the viewing od the art and videos- making connections to texts reads of culture, identity, and perspective; ATTs local and global contexts (Learner Portfolio).
Discussion on the viewings (perspective, thinking skills, communication)
IV. Application: Practice and Assessment
  1. Students will define the concept they select and find at least 2-3 quotes from their readings to make connections (Learner Portfolio)
  2. Students write a paragraph or a one-page journal on the connections they have found.
  3. Students create journals, blogs, or video essays addressing local and global contexts
  4. In-class analysis essay writing on given topics (Paper 1 and 2 practice)
  5. Drafted essays (HL essay (practice)
