Drama freeze

Pair the participants into teams of two
The first team spontaneously acts a random scene without discussing the scene beforehand
While the two participants are acting, the supervisor of the game can call “freeze” anytime
Once the supervisor says “freeze,” the acting team must remain still
Then another team of two participants will take over the positions of the previous participants.
Once the supervisor says “action,” the new team in the freeze position takes the drama up from there. However, the new participants must spontaneously come up with a scene entirely different from the one acted by the previous participants.
Other teams also take turns to play in the same manner

Emotion game

1. Everyone is in a line, can't see each other
2. Someone is turning their back on the line and has to say "1 2 3 *emotion*" (excited, moody, taking the piss, fearful, bored, depressed, anxious, hysterical...) - it can be situations too (doctor examining a patient, teacher scolding a student, talk show host interviewing celebrity, mechanic delivering bad news to car owner, detective interviewing suspect....)
3. everyone has to stand perfectly sill when the leader turns around and has to act out the emotion
4. If you move or laugh, you start over. The aim of the gaim is to reach the leader

Communication chain

Have participants form a straight line. All participants should face the same direction
Select another participant who will be the last person on the line and take the lead
The leader will write down an action. For instance, “I was taking a walk and saw someone. I waved and fell”
After, the leader will tap the participant standing in front of them and demonstrate the action they wrote without verbal cues
Then that participant taps the next person and demonstrates the action
The demonstration will continue up to the beginning of the line. Then, the first person on the line will have to guess what the action is

One-word story

Have the players sit round in a circle
There will be a coordinator who will start the game. The game starts with the coordinator saying, “Once upon a time.” Then the coordinator follows the phrase with a random word
The second player sitting next to the coordinator will say another word
The third, fourth, fifth, and other players will also take turns to say a word. The words should form a meaningful sentence
Then the players keep taking turns to say the words until the final players say “the” and “end”

Call a number

Give all the players ordered numbers. For instance, if there are 20 players, then each one will take any number from 1 to 20
Next, have the players gather in a circle and decide who plays first
The first player will mention a random number within the numbers of other players

The game continues with players responding on time when another player calls their numbers

Tongue twisters

ZIP ZAP ZOP

1. Stand in a circle. Have players practice saying “Zip, Zap, Zop.”
2. One person starts by clapping and pointing to someone as she says, “zip.” The person she pointed to claps, and points to someone else saying “zap.” The person she pointed to then claps, and points to someone saying “zop.”

3. Then it starts all over again with the next player clapping and pointing to someone saying “zip!” The game continues until someone gets out.

4. If a player says a word out of order, he’s out. If a player hesitates too long, she’s out. When players is out, they can stay in the game, but turn into “land mines” by crossing their arms over their chest. If a player still in the game points to one of the “mines,” he is out too.

1. Group stands in a circle. One person goes into the center of the circle and starts an action (such as brushing her teeth).

2. A person goes into the center, and asks, “What are you doing?”
3. The person brushing her teeth answers by saying something other than what she is doing. “I’m dribbling a basketball.”
4. The first person then leaves, and the new person starts “dribbling a basketball.” Then a new person goes in and asks, “What are you doing?”
And so on…

Ball-toss name game

EASY :

Stand in a circle. Go around the circle and have each person introduce him/herself.
After everyone has stated his/her name, call someone’s name and toss the ball to that person.
The recipient must then call someone else’s name and toss the ball to that person.
Repeat until everyone in the circle has been tossed the ball once.
Instruct them to remember to whom they threw the ball.

ADVANCED :

Have the group toss the ball around the circle in the original order again. Make sure people throw the ball to the same person they did the first time around, continuing to state that person’s name.
Add a second ball and third ball so more than one ball is being thrown at a time.
Throw the ball in reverse order. Start with the last person and go backwards.
Rearrange the circle. Have the students stand somewhere different in the circle, but continue to toss the ball in the same order.

Three word sentences

Ask for two volunteers to improvise a scene where they both have to speak in three-word sentences.
For example:
- “Cup of tea?”
- “I’d love that.”
- “Here you are.”
- “May I sit?”
Try two or three pairs. The players may fnd it difcult to keep going for long until they realise that they don’t have to talk the whole time. Encourage them to allow plenty of action to occur in the scene so that they gain more thinking time. Once they start to get the idea you can divide the class into small groups so that everybody can try it.

Stop, go, jump, clap

Ask students to walk around using all the space.

Explain that you are going to call out some instructions that they should follow.
First begin with instructions ‘Stop!’ and ‘Go!’ and practise these a few times.
Then progress onto ‘Jump!’ and then ‘Clap!’. Practise all four instructions a few times.
Then explain that this time the instructions will be reversed: ‘So, when I say ‘Stop!’, I actually mean ‘Go!’ and when I say ‘Clap!’ I actually mean ‘Jump!’.’ And vice versa).
Resume the game by starting with ‘Go!’. This usually catches some people out straight away, but you can allow that as a practice.
Continue calling out instructions, attempting to eliminate people by including combinations of instructions, for example ‘Stop, go, clap, clap, jump, jump!’ and quickening the pace

Fairy tales in 60 sec'
