This was because at that time people's view of the world was pessimistic.</p></li><li><p>Another consequence of this pessimism was reflected in his pictorial style, through the use of the technique of tenebrism and the depiction of motifs of death.</p></li><li><p>Baroque art is characterized by realism, rich and intense colors, and strong lights and shadows, as opposed to Renaissance art. Chiaroscuro was an important technique at that time.</p></li></ol>]]></description>
