It wasn't until middle/high school when I started to receive sufficient instruction related to history. In elementary school, I participated in things such as a living wax museum, map of the world, etc. In middle/high school, I took topics such as World History, Sociology, Psychology. I went/lived in different school districts in between elementary school & middle/high school, which I feel accounts for the differences.

In high school I remember watching TED Talks and CNN every day in civics/economics to see what was happening in the world

We had a class market after our unit about money and currency. We got to bring things from home to "sell" like foods, bracelets, etc. I remember it so clearly because it was l was able to apply exactly what I had learned but I also got some cool products out of it from my peers!

In elementary school we had a speaker come and talk to us about their experience with American Immigration.

In 2nd or 3rd grade, we did a play/performance about immigration to America. I also remember having map quizzes where we had to memorize states and their capitals. In elementary school, we also did a lot work involving my town and NYC. In 8th grade we had a field trip to DC where we learned about the government and saw the monuments.

I remember when memorizing different states, countries, and continents, we would learn them in sections and highlight places in specific colors to help memorize the names and locations. Additionally, fun facts so when I looked at the state/country/or continent I would remember by referring to the fun fact and color

days of taste (learned about the farm to table aspect of food). Day 1 - learned about taste basics, Day 2 - farm field trip, Day 3 - salad prep. Learned about the history of food and the process of getting it from the farm to our tables.

I also remember watching Liberty Kids during some history classes.

I remember learning a lot about history, a little bit about government, and a little about geography (7 continents, 50 states, etc.) It took until middle and high school to dive into geography, current events, and general broader context social studies. I don't remember learning much about civics or government after early elementary school.

Music in the classroom

I remember learning through School House Rock! My school enjoyed incorporating music within the classroom, so we would learn songs that corresponded with the content being taught to aid students.

In first grade, my class put on a play of "The First Thanksgiving" (history).... Looking back on it now, it was not historically accurate and had several white students play the part of the Native Americans.

In 5th grade my class had to memoried the 50 states and capitals of the US (geography).

I did a wax museum in Elementary School. In Middle and Highschool history consisted of mainly the traditional classes like Civic, American History, AP US History, and everything I learned was out of a textbook.

In elementary history we learned a lot about ancient civilizations and created a newspaper. We also learned about Native American tribes that were from our area. Middle school was a lot about slavery and U.S during the World Wars. In high school we took econ and government.

I remember we had a geography focus in 8th grade social studies, but we just memorized major places/capitols and then took a test on it the next day. Besides that specific unit, I never had geography instruction in social studies. There were maps on classroom walls, but we never actually talked about geography in relation to social studies. As someone who never could travel as a kid, I struggled to learn history and other SS concepts because of this.

In elementary school we ended the day with a current events topic, where each day a student presented a current events topic of their choice

We did a project where each student created a brochure for a US state

Colonial day

In middle school we learned more about the government (especially as the 2016 election happened)

Had to memorize parts of the constitution

I remember doing something similar to a living wax museum, during which students dressed up traditionally according to their family's culture, wrote in a journal, brought in items that reflected that culture, and presented it all to students, parents, and teachers.

I remember in 5th grade going to different historical sites such as the battleship in North Carolina and Fort Fisher, being able to explore the areas and sites as a class.

I do not remember much from lower grades, but I recall learning about government from elementary school and how things worked. In lower grades I participated in BizzTown, wax museums, and other hands-on activities.

also, with ancient civilizations, we used flocabulary (fun and educational videos) so I would remember things that happened during that time period through a song
