Most commonly the pathogen is contracted through contaminated foods such as ground beef. A few different symptoms can show signs of this, for example: cramping of the abdominal area, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Of course these symptoms can vary person to person depending on the severity of the case. For other means, to prevent E.Coli from occurring it is very important to wash all fruits and vegetables before consumption, avoid cross-contamination, separate raw meats from other foods, and not de-frosting meats on counter tops. The people who are at high risk of conceiving E.Coli are pregnant women, children under the age of 5, people with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and elderly. Unfortunately there is no current treatments that can cure the infection, but only relieve symptoms.
