- Why do you want to be a nurse? When did you decide you wanted to be a nurse? Did anyone or anything influence your decision?

Becoming a nurse wasn’t my first choice — at first, I was interested in speech therapy, especially because of my passion for working with children and helping them overcome communication difficulties. However, my experience working in children’s entertainment played a major role in changing my path. Being in close contact with kids, supporting them, and creating joyful experiences made me realize how much I enjoy taking care of others and being there for them in meaningful ways. Through that experience, I discovered a deeper calling — to be someone who can make a real difference in people’s lives by offering care, support, and empathy. That’s when I decided to pursue nursing with determination and a clear sense of purpose. It may not have been my first choice, but it has become the right one for me.

- Create a dialogue you could hear in a hospital.

Explain the scene, location, actors.

Scene:

Location: Surgical ward, late afternoon. Actors: Nurse (young, kind, professional), Mattia (pediatric patient just back from abdominal surgery), and his mother, Lisa.

Mattia is resting in bed, slightly groggy but awake. The nurse comes in for a routine post-op check.

Dialogue:

Nurse: Good afternoon, Mattia. How are you feeling now?

Mattia: A little sore, but not too much. Still a little sleepy.

Lisa: You've been sleeping on and off. Is that normal?

Nurse: Absolutely. It's normal to feel sleepy after the anesthesia. The important thing is that you're responsive and not in too much pain.

Mattia: Just a little discomfort around the stitches.

Nurse: I'll check the incision and then give you something for the pain, okay?

Mattia: That would be great, thanks.

Lisa: When can you start eating again?

Nurse: I hope to start fluids tonight.

During my first internship, I was assigned to the general and thoracic surgery ward. At first, I felt a bit embarrassed and unsure, especially because I was afraid of making mistakes or not meeting expectations. However, from the very beginning, the nurses there welcomed me with kindness and support, helping me feel at ease and overcome my initial anxiety. Thanks to their encouragement, I started to feel like part of the team and began to see the internship as a real opportunity for growth. It was a fantastic experience, intense and full of emotions. I learned so many things, both technically and in terms of communication skills, and I had the chance to closely observe the role of the nurse in a complex and stimulating environment. This internship strengthened my motivation and my desire to become a competent nurse who is attentive to the needs of patients.
