Wedding Dress

My wedding dress is one of the things I cherish the most, one of my most memorable items, yet if I could change it, I would. My husband and I paid for our own wedding in whole, all on our own. The one thing, however, that was not paid for by us was my wedding dress. I went shopping with my mom for my dress. She was very set on one of the dresses I had tried on, while I liked it, it was not my “dream” dress. I wish I had pushed harder for the dress that I truly loved, even if I did like the dress my mom picked out, it was not me, it was not my dress, and if I could go back to make a different decision, I would.

Pharmacy School

From a very young age I had my mind set on being a pharmacist and going to pharmacy school. When I got older and started to shadow other pharmacists, I was bored, and felt like it wasn’t right, but I still forced myself to preserve and keep going with it. Until it got to the point where I physically could not anymore. My mental health had shot into the gutters and I no longer could stand the job I had dreamed I would have as a kid and teen. I felt like I had wasted so much time and I only wished I had spent it doing something I really enjoyed.

Mental Health

Mental Health is something that I have struggled with my whole life. From a young age, I have had troubles with things. From depression, to anxiety, to other disorders, things have been tough for me. Though things have gotten much better with the help of medications and support systems there are still times when I am struggling, but the improvement from before and the people who have stuck it through with me is all I can ask for.

Meeting the Husband

My husband and I have always been in the same friend group, though we never actually had talked or hung out. One day after a terrible haircut when I was 16, he came in to where I was working and told me he liked my hair. I had turned to my friend and said the exact words, “I am going to marry that man” and low and behold, that is exactly what happened. We started dating shortly after that, then 4 years later we got married and it's all gone from there.

Mom

My mom. Growing up, I didn’t fully understand the challenges she faced. Some things I was too young to know, and other things she shielded me from. We went through a lot together, from really great highs to awful lows. No matter what, she always stood by my side, supported me, pushed me to be my best and sacrificed so much for me, more than I ever realized. She made me into a driven, self-motivated person. My mom had a tough life and went through struggles I can’t even imagine. Yet, she came out on top—successful, resilient, and inspiring. I love her deeply and will always strive to make her proud.

First impressions

I think a lot of first impressions depend on the environment. I tend to try to be as genuine as possible. I used to care a lot about others’ opinions of me, worried about what they would think. Now, at 31, I care much less. Many of the first impressions I have been told I am seen as are loud, obnoxious, intimidating, dramatic, and outgoing, among others.

Running

Running has become a big part of my life. Growing up, I was very active in sports and loved competition. After college, I didn’t prioritize my health and began to dislike exercise because it felt like a chore. About a year ago, I decided to stop making excuses and look at fitness from a new perspective. I started riding my Peloton and joined friends for group rides. It is something I now look forward to and prioritize. I am trying to make sure I am giving myself time during the day to fill my cup before pouring into others'
