This snap is from the very first part of the book.It is powerful because it shows the reader how the Nazi regime is all they knew. This helps the reader understand Alfons (and the other Hitler Youth's) commitment to the ideas of the Nazis and why they didn't question them.

This book snap is towards the beginning of the book when the Jews were first being persecuted. This quote is interesting because it shows the reader how Alfons doesn't really pay attention the the way Jews were treated.

This part of the book is when the Nazis had began to increase their production and man power. I find it interesting how the woman were "horrified" to work in a factory. This is interesting because in today's world, woman serve in the military and work in factories.

This book snap takes place when Alfons is training to become a pilot. Alfons has to deal with the consequences when he disobeys and order. The question I have about this is why are the consequences so harsh. Especially because Germany was running low on people, it seems to be a bad idea to kill more of their own troops for simply for disobeying orders.

This book snap is from the end of the book right before the downfall of the Nazis. This part make me ask a couple questions. The first is why were the U-boats no longer a threat? I wonder this because it said they used to destroy thousands of ships, but they were no longer a threat. The second question I have is why did Stalin and the Soviet Union decided to partner with the Allies. I wonder this because earlier in the book, it said that the Nazis and Russians worked together.

This part of the book is when the war is towards the end and the German army is losing resources and people. I find it interesting how they made such a young person a high ranking official. This part of the book I can relate to in one aspect because I am young like Alfons and could not image taking on such a big responsibility.

This quote is showing the part when Alfons meets Adolf Hitler. I think that this is interesting because of how Alfons viewed Adolf Hitler. He (along with the other Hitler Youth) viewed him as a god-like figure and felt that meeting him was a very important event in their lives. However, this passage also leaves me wondering why Hitler would summon the high ranking Hitler Youth to give them such a mundane speech.

This part of the book is towards the end when the Nazis are loosing. Alfons learns that Adolf Hitler kills himself and shares his thoughts in this book snap. This is a interesting part of the book because it shows how Alfons thought of Adolf Hitler, and how no matter what he did, he would not "think any less of him" It is also powerful when it says, "We were the slaves now, headed into a never-ending darkness". This is powerful because throughout the book, the Nazis were always the ones enslaving people, but now, they are the ones who are slaves.
