         <description><![CDATA[<p>A tubular long organ that connects the pharynx to the stomach. The esophagus is lined with <mark>mucus</mark> to help food pass into the stomach. <mark>Peristalsis</mark> is a series of wavelike motions in your muscles that moves swallowed balls of food into the stomach. Stomach acid can flow back through the esophagus causing your chest to burn which is called <mark>heartburn</mark>. No digestion occurs in the esophagus.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The stomach stores and breaks down food. It uses <mark>Hydrochloric acid</mark> and enzymes to break down food. The enzyme <mark>pepsin</mark> breaks down <mark>proteins</mark> that enter the stomach from food. <mark>Chyme</mark> is a pulpy acidic fluid that passes through the stomach into the small intestine containing gastric acids and partly digested foods. The stomach is both mechanical and chemical digestion because it churns food up and the acids in your stomach break food down.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The pancreas are able to produce <mark>enzymes</mark> that help to digest food. The enzymes break down carbs, fats, and proteins. The pancreas also produces <mark>insulin</mark> which are hormones that help to regulate sugar levels. The pancreas uses chemical digestion.</p><p><br></p><p>The pancreas has a passage known as the pancreatic duct. The pancreatic duct connects to the common bile duct and creates the ampulla of Vater near the <mark>small intestine. </mark></p>]]></description>

The small intestine uses enzymes to break down food in chyme which means it is <mark>chemical digestion</mark>. <mark>Villi</mark> are finger like projections in the small intestine that <mark>absorb</mark> the nutrients from chyme.</p>]]></description>
