Agree:
- Seneca's ideas seem like a direct response to the questionable actions of emperor Nero and the problems that faced Rome whereas Plato's ideas would've seemed revolutionary to some in the contemporary Greek audience.
- Seneca took the traditional ideas of stoicism and built upon it. During Nero's reign, Rome was divided and Seneca's new stoicism advocated for the unity of community.
- As opposed to Plato, Seneca he had an intimate relationship himself (with his wife Paulina) which he used as the base of his definition of "pure love".
- Caligula had incestuous relationships with his sisters this may have influenced Seneca's strong ideals against incest (as seen in his description of the physical symptoms of desire in Phaedra).
- Plato published his works attempting to change people to Socratic thinking. He used the dialogue to present the World of Forms and Tripartite Soul.
- Agrippina seduced Claudius to marry him for power - Seneca was against relationships created out of advantage. He believed you should love to be loved. Agrippina's actions (and many other Roman marriages) would've influenced Senaca's opinions as it shows the negative effects of selfish motivations.

Disagree:
- Plato was directly influenced by Socrates and the majorities of his dialogues are comprised of different peoples' ideas ie. Diotima. Those people are key figures (Generals, Doctors, philosophers) who would have had an influence in contemporary culture.
- As women were believe to be ruled by physis, the idea of Diotima's ladder clearly shows that homoerotic relationships were held in higher esteem as it lead to the discovery of the True Form of Beauty - therefore we can infer that Plato indeed believed women were less respectable.

Seneca: Seneca`s ideas have been greatly influenced by what he has experienced first hand as Nero`s tutor and then later adviser. Nero spiralled into unstable mentality and corruption of power which Seneca would have reflected in his ideas to try and prevent this, for example stoicism which is based on restraining your emotions and place reason above desires.
Agrippina also had a strong influence as she poisoned her own husband/uncle to make sure her son (Nero) could take the throne, this has influenced Senecas views as we see in stoicism which is all about being calm and living on the necessities which is the exact opposite of Agrippina.
The incestuous relationships between Agrippina and Claudius and Caligula and his sisters has also influenced his ideas as he saw how all these relationships ended as Caligula`s relationships with his sisters resulted in exile and murder and Agrippina killed her husband/uncle Claudius. Plato saw this as bad which is reflected in his ideas when he describes it as an unnatural love that can physically effect you.
Plato: Plato has been influenced by By different peoples views such as Diotima and Socrates. In symposium Socrates talks about Diotima`s Ladder and how you must start at the bottom and work your way up to achieve the true form of beauty. We can see the influence of Diotimas ladder in the rest of Plato's ideas such as Homoerotic relationships which Plato sees as useful to the state and has no problem with pederastic relationships as it is the first step to working your way up the ladder.
The Peloponnese War also had a great influence on Plato especially in his ideas in Republic because it was everyone working together to help the state and do what was in the best interest of the state which Plato probably thought people should have been doing at the time of the Peloponnese war but instead were more focused on expanding their own households.
