- everything seeks some good
- If you do something to get a result, the result is better than the action
- There are subordinate relationships among the ends we seek
- There some higher end to everything that is better than all the other ends
- The hierarchy cannot go on forever, there is some highest end
- The chief science is political science because it dictates what other sciences people should study
-

1) Somethings goodness is defined by its function and how well it follows through
2) A mans function is action of rational thought, and how well he does that action
3) Therefore, human good is the following of the action of rational thought from the soul.

He isn't defining good or evil actions... he is defining quality of those actions

Ex. The function of a lyre player is to play the lyre. The function of a good lyre player is to play the lyre well.

...Because we have the ability to reason our function is to use that reason.. Therefore, if our function is to be good humans then we must reason well.

*3 types of lives, enjoyment, politics, and contemplative (study), one of them must be the happy life
*Enjoyment is most vulgar, and they associate happiness with material pleasures
*Political life seeks happiness through honor, but it is superficial because you rely on people to give you honors - honors can be taken away
*Because neither the life of enjoyment nor life of politics is the happy life, the contemplative life is the happy life
