The character I chose from Raisin in the Sun is Lena Younger, also known as Mama. Lena is Walter and Beneatha's mom, she is a wise and kind elderly lady. Lena always sees the best in people and just wants to support and keep her family together. She always wants the best for her kids and she can be kind of stubborn at times but she knows what she's doing. Lena always stands up for what she believes in. hen the white people tried to get them to leave, she wasn't having it, she wasn't going to let them take away the stuff she paid for with her own money. T

Lena is a really selfless person, she thinks about others before herself and tries to give her family the best she can. “Walter—What you ain’t never understood is that I ain’t got nothing, don’t own nothing, ain’t never really wanted nothing that wasn’t for you. There ain’t nothing as precious to me…There ain’t nothing worth holding on to, money, dreams, nothing else—if it means—if it means it’s going to destroy my boy” (Pg 106). The only thing she wants in her life is for her son and daughter and the rest of family to be happy, there's nothing that would make her more happier than that.

I do sympathize with Lena, she is trying hard to help her kids but money is tight and she really can't do anything about it. Lena and her family aren't living in the best and safest conditions but at least it's something. I think Lena's family is her weakness, she loves them so much, she would do anything for them and would be heartbroken if anything would happen to them. Lena's strength would be her patience and kindness. Lena is the glue of the family she keeps them together and tries to make peace with them and is really patient while doing so.

I chose this piece of art because I think it represents calmness, peace and a little bit of the sun is shining like Lena. Lena is peaceful and calm and i think she truly is the light of the family, she tries to never give up hope and does fight for what she believes in.

Softer Stronger People by Nikita Gill

I think this poem describes Lena. "There are human beings in this world who are soft enough to feel every terrible thing that happens so deeply. And are still brave enough to remain constant and suffer for those who need them the most" (Gill). Lena is a strong woman who has been put through a lot because of the color skin she was born in and she still remained nice, wise and kind woman no matter what others have said. "Even the stars blink in awe of the gleam of their souls" (Gill). Lena is a one of a kind person, you don't meet many people who stay true to themselves and remain to be that way after bad stuff happening which is admiring.

Dreams Vs. Reality

"What’s the matter with you all! I didn’t make this world! It was give to me this way! Hell, yes, I want pearls ‘round my wife’s neck. Ain’t she supposed to wear no pearls? Somebody tell me—tell me, who decides which women is suppose to wear pearls in this world. I tell you I am a man—and I think my wife should wear some pearls in this world!” (pg 143). A huge theme in "Raisins in the Sun" is Dream Vs. Reality. There are dreams that can be made into reality but not around that time. Back then, it was hard for colored people because they were still looked down upon and couldn't get as many job opportunities and houses as they wanted. The dream was that they could live in a huge house with their dream jobs and be happy and not looked down upon but that wouldn't happen til many years later and some people are still like that today which is sad. This quote shows that sometimes you can't always get what you want, that was a dream and not a reality which does suck but sometimes you just have to be patient and one day maybe it will come true.

"A Raisin in the Sun" and "Fences" are both very similar and different. Starting with the characters, some are similar and very different like Walter and Troy. Troy was a tough guy who was trying to provide for his family much like Walter but Troy was kind of abusive to his son while Walter wasn't at all. Rose and Ruth I guess are kind of similar and different too. Rose is a stay at home mom while Ruth wasn't but they are similar in a way that they both want the best for their kids and family.

Both of the plays have very similar themes and messages. Both of the plays have to deal with being lower class and have money issues but Troys family was a little more respected than Walters family was. In Walters family, white people didn't really like them at all but in Troy's family, Troy has a white friend names Bono and he was kind and nice to the family.

In "Fences" the family has to deal with being in the lower class and deal with money issues. Imagine, a person of color has to do all the work and hardly gets paid while the people who aren't a person of color can sit back and just relax. In "Fences" Troy was a garbage man and he had to do all the work and didn't really get paid that much while the person who wasn't black got to drive and just sit back and relax. This situation angered Troy but he still kept working because he had to support his family.
