My great grandmother and her parents came over to the United States from Syria in the early 1900s. They came from Damascus, and came through Ellis Island.

This is a photograph of them when they came to America. The whole family got very close to each other because there were very few other Syrians around and they wanted to keep their traditions. Family and religion was everything to them

On Easter, we have a tradition of dyeing hardboiled eggs. They used red onion skin to dye them, where we now use vinegar and food coloring for ours. A traditional game we play is hitting the eggs on each others heads, trying not to crack them.
