Facial expressions, nods of the head, hand waving, eyebrow raising, a smile, frowning, and a light touch. There is always going to be cultures who react to these gestures differently. Backgrounds of different ethic groups are territorial of how they handle who is in their space is much diverse. A very popular way of nonverbal is, texting or writing to someone and not having the anxiety of being rejected. This purchase was very exciting to me at the time to finally be able to afford and get to build the set with the money I worked hard for, by doing chores and also helping out with planting fruits and vegetables in the backyard at the time. I still enjoyed the set for about six years then, I lost interest over time and moved onto other good looking sets coming out. The social pressures would be, watching the ads on tv and also noticing other kids have this toy when I do not have it. The social location was mostly based on age and at the time the Lego set was very popular, especially for my age and was very curious to have one of those. 09/10/2022

Being able to come together to laugh, tell stories, and enjoy each others company when preparing the meal. This to me, relates to the Marxist commodity fetishism. There is a social disconnect when we go out to the local supermarket and buy the meat and ingredients. Typically we do not know the whole process behind this ground piece of meat. Just go out and buy whatever is there and cook it at home. 09/10/2022

The criminal justice system incarcerates more black young males, than white males for the same crimes. Prisons and drugs are a very lucrative/profitable business, the more people you can incarcerate, the more profits they make. How much does each inmate cost? In California, each person cost $67,00 to be house in the prison. Core Civic Inc. leases or owns 74 prisons and has over 75,000 beds within the system. Capitalism is a part of our economic and political system. This creates employment disparities and disenfranchising in minority communities. Hiring practices and racial discrimination such as background checks are done more often on blacks than their white counterparts. Blacks with a criminal record, the employment opportunities would be very scary. This brings about a generation of inequality to a poor group. I would be willing to hire an ex-convict, if I had my own business. I believe in second chances for people. There would be a limit as to what kind of crime they have committed to be able to work for me. 9/20/22

I believe when analyzing crucial facts from the different point of views on how people interact with others in society. When misleading one's self to get different results that are favorable to him or herself. Individuals can be acting in a calculating manner, to get a particular response or outcome. For example, at work you might act one way and then after work there can be a whole different personality. When out with friends, you can go from an introvert to an extrovert. The assumption on individual's behavior can be quite deceiving.

This type of work is eagerly left up to the professional, but it comes at a cost. The funeral career field; morticians, embalmers, and the directors experience more stigma than any other professional occupation. Different words are being used instead of "dead", for destigmatizing and comfort for loved ones in their time of loss. Words like loss, sorrow, sadness, and passing. Grief counselors and service are in your time of need. Redefining the funeral occupation stigma terms, which are associated to the handling of the dead.

Advertising has become a huge way to get the audience's attention and bring their interest to focus on that certain product. Companies advertise so they can be able to grow themselves and build a social connection with the consumers. I saw an advertisement once about Mr. Clean and then was interested in the product's cleaning capabilities being shown on the ad. My mom and I went out to the stores and then purchased these products. There are many different ways to conduct your research to bring in information about your subject. Being able to develop data and see the outcome of those results from gathering. Data can be gathered with in-person, online, phone, and by mail etc. Although most people do not answer their phone unless they know who is calling. Polls for elections can be a great way to gather data and see what the demographic's opinions are on, for the particular values they are looking for in a candidate.

For myself, I have been into name brands and not trying to use or purchase non name brand items. For a good majority of people prefer to have branded shirts, shoes, pants, etc, rather than trying to wear clothes and shoes from a Walmart. Just showing that they are trying to stay with the trends and going along with other people. Noticing someone wearing a brand like Jordan for example, they see how they look on certain people and try to stay and replicate that type of look they were trying to go for. A lot can deal with the “Self” and can make you feel a certain connection between you and a certain object from a younger age. Something like a token your parents and /or grandparents gave to you to cherish. So, if you had a pair of Jordan shoes when you were younger, then they can also have an affect on what your preference is later on in life.

Wealth inequality is understated, the actual distribution of wealth have spiraled out of control. The top 1% of individuals and their families have more wealth than the entire middle class as of June 2021, a staggering 36.2 trillion net worth (Kaplan). The wealthiest families need to pay their fair share in taxes, congress needs to close the tax loopholes that are being abused. The global wide Coronavirus pandemic of 2020. Elites and the super rich like, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and other wealthy billionaires have a combined wealth net gains of $1.7 dollars (Chuck Collins). The elite’s inheritance wealth and transfer, the resources to their children without paying any taxes. This undertaking serves to uphold cultural capital with their children. Millions of Americans families, middle class working poor have lost their livelihood, jobs, and homes. Congress has approved the economic stimulus package in 2022 and in 2021, to avoid an economic meltdown in the United States.
The Starbucks company market to a specific social culture, mostly in the in the middle and upper class society. The company made sure to analyze the data when opening their stores, catering to an upscale of consumers in the 90’s. The decline in Starbucks revenue sales has declined over time, when more coffee shops have entered into the coffee consumption.
Due to the consumption of coffee to the globalization around the world, Brazil, Ethiopia, and other countries have a greater wealth inequality. The workers are paid little or no money with zero benefits and poor working conditions. The coffee business has a billion dollar commodity. As consumers, we can support the fair trade policies that are more equatable for all. In my opinion we need to compensate people on the lower class of the economic spectrum by closing loopholes that benefits only the rich and powerful. This is easier said than done for this economic system. The powerful lobbyist keep the bills from ever becoming law. There is a need for implementation of a more equable tax system across the board.

Kaplan, Juliana: businessinsider.com

Collins, Chuck: Inequality.org

Poverty is used in many different ways throughout society to keep economic classes in their place. At the hand of the political machine, affluent and the power of the rich. The ultra rich have benefited from the system of laws that protect their wealth (Reich). The wealth inequality in America is really felt towards the bottom of the food chain. The middle class and the poor 50 percent of earners only owned 2.8 percent of the total wealth (Duffin). Root causes of poverty need to be addressed by political leaders and pay inequality in America.
American poverty and around the globe is constructed to keep low class society of workers producing and serving the economy and rich individuals. The poor perform vital services in our society. Dirty work with the under paid combined with dead end jobs, are filled with the poor. Poverty gets a bad rap, with the norms to disenfranchise and stereotype a particular group of people at the expense of the elites and wealthy.
A number of occupations and professions have been created to from serving the poor. Social workers, mental health doctors, and other similar careers have blossomed because of the entity of poverty in America. Also, poverty help has helped build a status of who are not poor by class hierarchy. To maintain the difference between themselves and the poor side of society. America becoming a superpower, is based on hierarchy ideology and the working poor.
I believe that America should value all of it’s citizens With starting to respect one another and strive to eliminate poverty.

I believe the wealth in the United States is not what people think it is. People’s idea of the classes and wealth are out of touch with reality. The upper class such as the top 10-20% make up the most wealth in this country. This is due to the low tax rate they have to pay and also the amount of investments they have on top of that. With loopholes they also have with their taxes and not paying a higher rate, when the other lower classes have to pay the higher tax rate. The top 1% of individuals and their families have more wealth than the entire middle class as of June 2021.
I was blown away with the distribution amounts of wealth of America and how little to none the lower classes had. Especially when the top 20% was still not where the 5,000 people thought it would be. They were still just under the actual amount of distribution America has. This gave me a new outlook on how, even though you can be in the top 20% but still not have the most wealth of the country. The top 1% could have that wealth passed down to them, made themselves, and/or married into the wealth. Usually the wealth is passed down to the next in order to keep the wealth in the family.

Everyone likes or plays some kind of sport, which can entertain and with also the players can enjoy their craft while making money for it. African Americans tend to have an easier time with sports, due to having more athleticism than others. The sport’s industry has tapped into knowing how to make billions of dollars from different types of categories, individuals, teams, and extreme sports. Selling tickets, logos, apparels clothing, and TV advertisements spreading the word to get more people invested in sports. The more consumers engage, massive amounts of profits are generated from group relations that are connected to sports.
In my opinion sports is another form of hierarchy, the wealthy owners using different social classes to profit from.

The information I gathered from the reading, there are people who were to hangout with the opposite race and not know the racial disparities between them at a young age. At some point you will start to feel and notice these disparities over time. Then start to question if these are okay or not and start to have other thoughts only you have and experienced. These experiences could be good or bad and no one else most likely does not have what you’re thinking. For example, for Clarence he was just having an open mind and enjoy hanging out with the white kids. He didn’t find out the disparities until he was a teen, when a friend asked about a place and if he has gone to it. This brought up feelings of not being relatable to his white friends.
I believe this was to show us that, people even in the same racial category do not know how it feels to one person to another. It was all about breaking that initial bubble that we are in and experiencing new outlooks of the way you and other people are feeling about the situation they are in.

Oklahoma in 1975, I went to a family funeral and we traveled by bus with twenty family members. When we arrived in Texas, white people refused to get on the bus with us. Race is socially constructed because, this has to deal with the qualities one or many think of you as. Like having the same skin tone as them and wether you belong to that specific group or not. At the end of the day, this just another way to categorize a person by their physical features. When back in the day for America, if you had all White ancestors then you were White. But if you had one Black ancestor, then you were put into the category of being non-White.

Babies are clothed in certain colors, boys in blue and girls in pink. Companies target children and their parents with weekly advertisements on cell phones, television commercials, and mailed pamphlets for designated stores. Toys have gender identity, dolls for girls emphasize feminine caring home maker, trucks for boys emphasize masculine power. Gender stereotypes exist in toys which reinforce racial inequalities in our society.

Toy stores have more white dolls on their store selves than any other races. Class hierarchy is established early in childhood by limiting access to playing with a more diverse prospective of toys and children. This is normal in America and different societies around the globe. Minority parents have little or no choice but to buy what is on the selves, so there child will not fill left out. Parents of color is starting to demand that the toys industry makes a more diverse line of dolls.

Each section is geared to specific career fields in our society. Home makers, teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters and store clerks. Toys that target one gender over another, they are placed in the store with boy toys with boys and girl toys with girls. The neutral toys are placed in a different are in the store. For example, the game section, science section, and puzzles section.

In my opinion all cultures should be represent by the toy industry because this will lead to greater racial diversity in our society and more neutral respect for one another culture.

Beauty is always based on assumption and awarded by his or her appearance never on their ability. Social stratification of individuals and groups is a part of social hierarchies, power, status and prestige. This grouping system starts at infancy and in nursery school. Children that are not very attractive and unattractive are socially placed in different groups by their peers. Throughout life you will experience some kind social class grouping, from infancy to death.

When applying for a job one’s beauty is prejudged as being the best qualified, but they’re not the better candidate for the position. This leads to social inequalities in our society and lower class.

I believe as we learn and become more aware about beautiful and beauty in our society.

The Military has been always dominant by men. Women are used in support positions, nurses, supply clerk and etc. But with the women’s movement this Social change have presented many challenges in the Military, gender harassment and sexual harassment. Now the military has many more women in position of authority such as, generals and commanders. Some men resisting their women coworkers authority by foot-dragging and spreading rumors. This method is effective for undermining the women Superior work, without refuses to obey orders.

Many men believe women claiming equality, has resulted in favorable treatment and women can not fully meet the demands of being a soldier. Gender harassment is used to force women and LGBTQ gender back into traditional roles in the military. Women in the military feel that they’re under intense scrutiny at all times from their male counterparts. Resulting in lower performance ratings and overall productiveness.

Women experience sexual harassment from men making sexual comments, discrimination in promotions and sexual abuse in the military. Gender harassment is more prevalent than sexual harassment in the Military.

I believe women should be treated equally in the military. There should be no gender discrimination when it come to job performance by women. Equal pay and equal jobs for women, they should take a harder look at becoming a soldier in the military. Women do not have to register for selective service in military, while men need to.

White Weddings are a multi billion dollar industry and very profitable, with the dreams of having a fantasy wedding. Weddings are an ideologic idea base on economic consumer culture. Young girls are targeted by the wedding industry with ideas of a white wedding. Example toys, Barbie dolls dressed in a white wedding dress and Ken in a tuxedo. Showings lavish weddings on the television, Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Teens and young women are target with brides magazines also, their parents saying, that one day you will have a beautiful wedding and a family.

The dream of getting married is shared by multiple cultures and different classes of people around the globe. Brides expecting to have the most lavish wedding they could afford, diamond ring, expensive wedding dress and different venues, engagement party, bridal party, wedding, wedding reception and not to forget the honeymoon. The average wedding cost is thirty thousand dollars, more than some people earn in a year. Weddings are still popular all around the globe.

Today we have the modern day family and blended families. Inter-racial, gay and lesbian families with the dreams of having a Wedding. Some families are selecting smaller intermit wedding ceremonies. Families have changed over the pass fifty years. Women work outside the home to help with the cost of living expenses. Black people are less interested in having White culture wedding ideas. Their weddings are a mixture of Black culture and some White ideas.

In my opinion the test will be, can you stay married? No matter how lavish the wedding ceremonies, are you committed to one another for a lifetime? More marriages in today’s society end in divorce.

Sexual assault, inmate culture, and gangs. Guards have the power of inflicting brutal pain to another human being, beating inmates daily without any disciplinary action from the prison authorities. Prisoners are forced to sleep on a cold concrete floor and to use the sink as toilet. These types of mistreatment can break the human spirit and make him or her a repeat offender.

I believe we need more reforms to the prison system. People who violate society norms are institutionalized and place in a psychiatric ward. Doctors diagnosis there patient as having a serious psychiatric disorders. Insanity, mental illness, crazy schizophrenia and psychotic. There is not enough time to observe the amount of patients. Its already know on the streets that. there’s a different kind of rules that are applied. To assert you authority when dealing with all suspect, whatever the circumstances might be. Officers using deadly force when dealing with an unarmed suspect by firing his or her gun. In pursuit of chasing down a suspect, when the officer feels obligated to beat the suspect. Always using a justification that they fear for their life. This is normal behavior among Police officers. There’s a brotherhood among the Police.

In my opinion there’s good and bad cops on the Police force. Its hard to weed out the bad cops because there’s a code of silence among cops. No snitch’s.

The American family is hard to judge from 100 years ago to modern day American families. The risks for children were much higher back then, compared to modern day children. I can see the lack of attention these kids are not getting, due to mothers working more and spending less time with their kids. This plays a big part from their amount of time they spend at work trying to bring in more income, and continue to keep a roof over their children. The fathers are spending less time at work, because of the two incomes put together. With women having more opportunities at workplaces, these fathers have more time spend with their kids and doing things around the house.
I believe modern day families, have become blended with interracial, gay, and lesbian. American policies when dealing with American families, are out dated. American families have more choices than 50 years ago. All American families have dreams about living the American dream of success.

I sometimes talk to myself when I’m alone. When I need to say something to another person. I rehearse my thoughts out loud to myself. I had the flu twice this semester, my classwork is suffering , and I work late at night. I started to talk out loud on what I needed to do to catch up on my class assignments.

In society people don’t just talk themselves out loud this is abnormal. When society norms of being normal are violated. They’re labeled as being crazy, weird or insane. I’m a young black male in my twenties going to college and taking early morning classes.

Talking to myself occasionally my behavior might appear irrational when viewed by other people. I consider it rational, when I’m studying for several class exams. No, I didn’t label myself as being weird or crazy because I’m just thinking out loud. There is no need to place labels on normal people.
