Wow. What can I say about this book? I am speechless. If you are one the fence about reading it because of its length, please do not fear and pick it up and start reading. It has been sitting on my shelf for several months now because of that reason. Now I am kicking myself for not reading it sooner.

So much love and research went into this book. The story of Elizabeth Packard, what she went through and what she accomplished because of it, should be heard by all. I learned a lot through this telling of Mrs Packards story. The history and treatment of mental illness in this country and of women’s rights, we still have so far yet to go on both matters.

What a telling of history in this book. Both frustrating and triumphant. We should never forget history, lest we repeated it. Louise and Mark’s parents die tragically in a car crash and they need to discuss their parents wishes and take care of the things they have left behind. In dealing with this they share memories with each other, each not knowing what the other went through in their youth. They each have horrific truths and upsets they have kept secret from each other. The secrets have lead them to misunderstand each other and hate each other.
After their parents die and they understand each others very different life stories, they come together to open up their families buried secrets and lay past hurts to rest.

Creepy puppets, dolls and imaginary friends come to life and try to stop the life they know from changing. This is the first book like this I have read and I kept picturing it in movie form in my head. I wasn’t so on the edge of my seat scared reading it. The book was a little long, but there was a nice plot twist in it that I didn’t see coming.
