The Nazi Hunters by Neal Bascomb is a thrilling nonfiction adventure story, full of action from the opening page. This is one of my favorite nonfictions I have ever read, with detailed descriptions of all the characters. The author does a fabulous job of getting you hooked from the first sentence, and the action doesn’t stop. This book is fantastic, but I would make sure to at least have some beginner knowledge of the Holocaust, so that understanding the events will be easier for you. Overall this book will appeal to anyone interested in that time period, or any action and adventure readers.

Book review by: Ryder Poulin

Overall I’d say that the book, Popular by Maya van Wagenen, was not necessarily a life changing book for me, but has without a doubt broadened my view on what it truly means to be “popular” and what that really is. Popular follows Maya through her eighth grade year in Brownsville, Texas. Her friend Kenzie had once said that school is “the armpit of life”, and for Maya, no statement is truer. That is until she rediscovers an old, fraying popularity book from the 50’s that had been bought many, many years ago on a whim. Betty Cornell’s Teenage Popularity Guide. After discovering this book, Maya decides to break out of her shell a bit and experiment with the variety of tips that this vintage popularity guide had to offer. Popular follows Maya through the ups and downs of what it’s really like being a teen in this day and age, and she discovers a lot more about herself and the world around her than it seems she had originally planned for. I would say that this autobiography is definitely a must read for anyone as they begin to question who they are and what they really stand for, and I know that I enjoyed it without a doubt.

James Dashner packed this book full of action and mystery. The main character, Atticus Higginbottom (who goes by Tick), finds a strange letter in his mail. It says that it was the first of twelve clues and is signed MG. Throughout this book Tick meets strange people, receives letters, and starts an adventure of a lifetime. He learns about realities and embarks on a journey that will change the future of the world.

The book The Last Girl on Earth automatically draws you in you are probably thinking “how is she the last girl on earth?” and “Is she really the last person on earth?”. Well the answer is YES she is, every one else is aliens. The main character Li is the only human on earth! Li has a sister named Zo and a loving father who care about her very much, every day her and her family have to keep this gigantic secret from everyone else otherwise Li might become a living science experiment. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat and you want to just keep reading. I think this story is great read for middle schoolers because you can relate to Li in a lot of different ways. I rate this book a 9 out of 10! I think you definitely should read this book if you like quick reads. This book was not to long nor was it to short. This book is perfect for readers who just like quick easy reads!

By Cassidy Westerhoff

Glossing over the interesting story of “the king of handcuffs” Harry Houdini himself, the author retells events in a way that makes you want to read more. Overall the book’s large print and length make it easy for younger readers, but rest assured, each of the 234 pages are jam packed with excitement, danger, and a whole lot of fun.

Eric Greitens’ “The Warrior’s Heart” is a very high quality book. It is a heart-warming autobiography about how Eric goes to different countries to help kids at foster homes, and then moves on to become a Navy SEAL. He meets some great people, but also some sad and broken ones, too. I would recommend this book to middle to high schoolers, because there are some stories about war and some harsh situations on the streets. For instance, on the streets of Uruguay, there are some kids who don’t have parents or their parents left them, that sniff “glue” to make themselves feel better. All in all, this is a book that is very touching and leaves the reader with mixed up emotions. This is a very well written book.

The way Jazz tells her story deeply in this memoir, showing how hard it was for her and her family throughout the transition of her becoming a girl, it also shows happy she was on the ends. It makes you feel as though you were part of the book because of how much description and depth of what was going on throughout that period of her life. This book is about an eighth grade girl named Maya and she is finding her true confident self along with her funny unique side. Maya tries all these new things that makes her feel more confident, some work and some don’t go as well as Maya thought they would. I recommend this book because it is funny and sad and keeps you on your toes.

By:Avri Struhs

In this book they struggle to beat back both the company and the Workers union and all the while trying to not take a side. This book was exciting to read and would be good for people who like steampunk and sci-fi themed books and are somewhere in between 6th and 8th grade. Mina finds herself stepping in her Uncle Sherlock’s footsteps as she works with her friends and to solve the case.

If you like the Sherlock Holmes novels with the Holmes and Watson, you’ll love this modernized version of the original novels by Arthur Conan Doyle. Do you like mysteries, suspense and plot twists? If yes, then this book is for you. This book is definitely on my list for the top 10 best books I’ve ever read.

A fierce and Subtle Poison
A Fierce and Subtle Poison was an absolute disappointment. My expectations were slowly shattered as I read through the pages. Every minute I wanted to put the book down and go outside. I tried to relate to the characters but they almost didn’t seem human. You could predict every single plot twist in the book like you wrote it. When I read the first pages, I was excited to read it everyday and night. But, after reading 20 pages, I put down the book and went to bed. In this book, Samantha Mabry wants you to feel sorrow when a character dies, but you actually feel happy that you may not have to read more about the boring character. There is pages with bad words and mentions of drugs that did not add to the plot. I would not recommend it to anyone who likes books.

Although this book was great I felt this book was missing various details that might make it that much better. Because of its more depressing scenes and intense parts I would recommend this book to young adults. The genre of this book would be put into the more tragedy category because you face death and depression throughout it. Morgan, the main character in the book has an amazing personality that will help you capture the feelings she is going through. It’s so well written at times you feel like you are living through her own life. The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart is a book about a teen boy who dreams about climbing mount Rainer but he has cancer. There’s Jessie, Marks best friend who for about half the story shares her perspective about how much she misses Mark. Jessie also kind of tells you who Mark was before he left and why everyone cared why this kid with cancer is gone. The Honest Truth is an amazing story which is always asking and wondering the answer to the question: Will Mark make it and fulfill his dream? Or will he fail and hurt everyone he loves in the process?

Picture of book.Where the Watermelons Grow

By: Cindy Baldwin

Realistic Fiction

Where the Watermelons Grow is an amazing book for kids 10 years and over because it has some content that younger audiences might want to try but shouldn’t. This book is about a young girl named Della, who has a mother who battles schizophrenia. Along the way Della has many encounters with her mother that scare her, because of the way schizophrenia is affecting her mother. Della has many attempts to get rid of her mother’s mental illness and hopes that the doctors were wrong about her mother’s mental illness and the fact it could never go away and tries avoiding her mother going back to the therapy hospital (for people who battle mental illness) miles away from home. I think this book is amazing because it really opens you up to something that a real person could be battling and struggling with, making you more aware about mental health issues.

First rule of punk, Izzy Watson

First rule of punk by Celia C. Pérez in my opinion was the worst book I have ever read because it was very boring and it felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. She definitely could have described things better to make the story more interesting. I also really don’t recommend this for middle schoolers because the story has really nothing interesting about it and you will get bored very easily unless you were very advanced reader. The beginning is not intriguing so I really did not want to read the book but I had to so as I kept reading it just got worse and worse . Do not read this book

By: Margaret Peterson Haddix
My Review by: Maya Pagano

‘The Summer of Broken Things’ is about Avery Armisted and Kayla Butts and one crazy summer they spent together in Spain. Avery is popular and comes from a wealthy family. Kayla known as ‘Butt girl’ at school and is poor due to an accident her father experienced. The girls were best friends at ages 5 and 7, but drifted away from each other as they got older as they lived in different towns. One day Kayla’s mother gets a call from Avery’s father, seeing if she would like to go to Spain with Avery and himself. Kayla is excited yet nervous. Avery on the other hand is not at all happy about bringing Kayla to Spain. During the trip Avery and Kayla learn new things about each other and themselves. I would recommend this book to ages 12 and up because some of the details in the book include talking about divorce and young adult topics. Personally, I could relate to this book and thought it was a great young adult read.

However, the result is more than dreadful. She spends so much time developing characters that the plot of this story is very slow. It’s slow enough to make me forget that this book was a novel and not a list of facts about the character. The climax to this MYSTERY AND MURDER NOVEL was boring at the least.
