[Sanggunian] Announcement from the ASHS Sanggunian re: Sanggunian Core Emergency Meeting

In light of the issues concerning the grading system, transparency, academic workload, and mental health, the Sanggunian Core consisting of the Executive Council, Comms Core, DAC Core, ACO Core, AthC Core, CSC Core, CSO Core, and Strand Councils held an emergency meeting on September 15, 2021 at 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to raise all concerns and to discuss the plans to be conducted moving forward.

The main agenda of the meeting was to respond to these rising concerns from students by collating inputs from the Sanggunian Core and deriving possible solutions. [SANGGU] Student Concerns

[ASHS Sanggunian Statement on the Arising Student Concerns regarding the Transparency and Response from the Sanggunian, the Grading System, Mental Health, and the Workload of Students, and the Rising COVID-19 Cases]

For the past few weeks of the first quarter, it has been noticeable that students have been raising concerns about the new structure of the qualitative grading system which now includes Exemplary (E), Highly Proficient (HP), Proficient (P), and Lacks Proficiency (LP) in contrast to the lack of the HP mark last school year. The intense pressure to get the best grades followed by the self-disappointment that comes after getting a grade of HP is taking a toll on the overall health and welfare of students, not to mention the fact that they also hold different weights of academic workload in each of their subject areas. There is also no comfort in knowing that COVID-19 cases continue to rise to the point that a lot of students, teachers, and their families are now being infected.

Upon juggling a heavy academic workload from all of the subject areas, students become weary and anxious to the point that they are unable to prioritize their health or the health of their families.

As students, the Sanggunian itself experiences the same situation and empathizes with the student body; thus, we express our sincerest gratitude and respect to the students who came forward to voice out their concerns which helped in raising the issues to the attention of everyone and in strengthening our common call.

The Sanggunian recognizes the urgency of these matters as each and every concern of the students is of utmost importance. From this point forward, the student body can expect that their student leaders will strive to be transparent with the processes regarding these matters. In line with this, there were already initial actions conducted in response* (read in the full statement). The Sanggunian has already proposed a course of action derived from the combined efforts of all councils* (read in the full statement).

The Sanggunian acknowledges accountability for the lapses regarding the urgency and transparency of the situation and for the delays in the delivery of the response and updates regarding the matters at hand. Please rest assured that we will do our very best to deliver accurate and timely updates on the progress of our plans as soon as possible and these updates will be publicized through our online outlets. With full consideration of the urgency of these matters, the proposed timeline* (read in the full statement) is the shortest duration possible for all of these processes.

The Sanggunian stands with the student body in their call to prioritize the matters concerning the grading system, mental health, academic workload, and the rising COVID-19 cases and we will spare no effort in resolving these issues for the sake of the students and for the betterment of our school.

[DAC x ACO] Focus Group Discussions regarding Concerns

The DAC x ACO Focus Group Discussions is one of the initiatives conducted by the ASHS Sanggunian to respond to arising concerns of the student body.

These serve as a platform for students to freely voice out their concerns, sentiments and inputs on the current situation where they are given an option to keep their anonymity and disclose information between them, their class officers, and the Sanggunian. The issues to be tackled are the (1) 4-Point Grading System, (2) Introduction of the Highly Proficient (HP) grade, and (3) Academic Workload.

The DAC x ACO Focus Group Discussions will be held at any time from September 22-24, 2021, under the discretion of the officers of each class. To join the FGD, please do not hesitate to approach your class officers. Kindly take note that only the first six (6) applicants will be allowed to participate in the focus group discussion.

LAYUNIN
maitampok at/o mahubog pa ang pagkamalikhain ng mga mag-aaral habang nagiging malay sa iba't ibang kultura at karanasan ng mga katutubo sa bansa. Sa pamamagitan ng pagsasaliksik at malikhaing proseso, mas malalim na makilala at maipamamalas ng mag-aaral sa komunidad ang kanyang multi-kultural na pinagmulan.

MEKANIKS
1. Bukas sa mga pangkat ng baitang 12.
2. Lilikha ng isang upcycled costume/headdress gamit ang face shield at face mask.
3. Bilang base ng kasuotan, maaaring gumamit ng facemask na gawa sa tela at ordinaryong face shield. Para naman sa mga palamuti, kinakailangang gumamit ng mga upcycled material o mga patapong bagay upang mabuo ang disenyo. I. RATIONALE:
Ang Tudlaan ay isang patimpalak sa pagsulat ng tula na naglalayong buhayin ang mga panitikang naging tatak ng pagkamatulain ng mga Pilipino. Sa pamamagitan nito, naiaangkop ang panulaan sa makabagong panahon upang magamit ang sining sa pagtataguyod ng maka-Pilipinong adhikain partikular sa pagsusulong ng pagpapahalaga sa katutubong talino at kultura ng bansa.

Maraming uri ng tula na naglalaman ng iba't ibang paksa, tema o damdamin. Maaaring may sukat at tugma at maaari din namang malayang taludturan. Talinghaga ang pinakaubod at puso ng isang tula. Ipinahahayag ng isang makata ang kaniyang damdamin at paksa sa pamamagitan ng matimping panalita at hitik na hitik sa imahen o larawang-diwa. Ika nga, nagsasabi nang hindi nagsasalita at nangungusap sa pamamagitan ng pandama.

Sa patimpalak, lilinangin sa mga kalahok ang kakayahang sumulat ng isang tradisyunal na tula yaong may sukat at tugma at makabago o malayang taludturan. Iniiwan sa mga kalahok ang pasya sa haba ng tula nang may pagsasaalang-alang sa tema ng pagdiriwang at higit sa lahat mabisa at malinaw na pananalinghaga.

II. ALITUNTUNIN NG PATIMPALAK

Bukas ang patimpalak sa lahat ng mag-aaral, guro at kawani ng Ateneo de Manila Senior High School liban sa mga tagapag-organisa ng patimpalak.
May dalawang kategorya ang patimpalak: 1.) Para sa Mag-aaral at 2.) Para sa mga Guro at Kawani ng paaralan.
Maaaring indibidwal o pangkatan ang paglahok. Kung pangkatan, bubuuin lamang ng tatlong kasapi sa isang pangkat na magtutulong-tulong. Iisang entri lamang ang maaaring ipasa ng sinomang kalahok.
Ibabatay ang tema ng entri sa tema ng pagdiriwang: "BANHAW: Pagdiriwang ng mga Wika at Kulturang Pilipino" at isusulat ang entri gamit ang isang wikang rehiyunal na may katumbas na salin sa Filipino.
Malaya ang manunulat na pumili kung tradisyunal o malaya taludturan ang entri gayundin ang bilang ng taludtod, saknong at haba ng tula.
Ilalagay ang entri sa isang word file. Ipadadala ang lahok sa e-mail address na: filipino.ashs@ateneo.edu. Ilagay sa subject line ang Taon, Seksyon at Lahok sa Tudlaan 2021. Halimbawa: 12-Loyola-Lahok sa Tudlaan 2021
May limang mapipiling magwawagi sa bawat kategorya at sistemang ranking ang gagamiting panukat sa magwawagi.

Isa sa mga patimpalak na gagawin ngayong taon ay ang HATAW PINOY. Isa itong patimpalak sa pagsayaw sa pagitan ng mga mananayaw mula sa iba’t ibang strand (ABM, GA, HumSS, STEM). Pagalingan ang mga Strand sa pagsayaw ng isang katutubong sayaw na binigyan ng modernong rendisyon.

Layunin ng gawaing ito na:

buhayin ang mga katutubong sayaw batay sa mga etnolinggwistikong grupo sa pamamagitan ng modernong interpretasyon ng mga mag-aaral;
ipagdiwang ang ganda at sigla ng mga katutubong sayaw sa gagawing pagtatanghal ng bawat kinatawan mula sa mga strands; at
magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga mag-aaral na ipakita ang kanilang talento sa pagsasayaw at makabuo ng koneksyon sa iba pang mga kasama sa strand sa kabila ng online set-up ngayong taon.

MEKANIKS:
1. Bukas ang gawaing ito sa mga interesadong sumali mula sa Baitang 11-12. Bubuo ang bawat isang strand (ABM, GA, HumSS, at STEM) ng pangkat ng mananayaw na may 8-10 kasapi.

2. Pipili ang bawat strand ng isang katutubong sayaw batay sa etnolinggwistikong grupo.Kapag nakapili na ang mga nabuong pangkat sa bawat strand, mangyaring ipaalam lamang ito sa mga organizers (Gng. Riki Bilog - rsmendoza@ateneo.edu at Bb. Aileen Dacut - adacut@ateneo.edu).
Upang magkaroon ng ideya ang mga pangkat, narito ang ilang mga katutubong sayaw na itinanghal sa mga nakalipas na patimpalak:

Polka sa Nayon
Pandanggo sa Ilaw
Salakot
Singkil
Kappa Malong-Malong
Kadal Tahaw

3. Itatanghal ng bawat pangkat na kinatawan ng mga strand ang napiling katutubong sayaw na may modernong galaw o twist na naaangkop sa katutubong sayaw. Tatagal lamang ang buong pagtatanghal sa loob ng 3-5 minuto.

4. Para sa kasuotan, tiyaking naaangkop ang pipiliing kasuotan sa tema ng pagtatanghal at hindi lalabag sa dresscode ng ating paaralan.

5. Maaari namang gumamit ng minimal props na pasok lamang sa upcycled/recycled materials kung kinakailangan. Hindi papayagan ang mga props na maglalagay sa panganib o alanganin sa sinomang magtatanghal (hal. mga props ne de-koryente, mga patalim o armas, atbp).

6. Papayagan naman ang video editing/effects para sa gagawing pagtatanghal, subalit hindi papayagan ang anumang visual effects na nakaaapekto sa natural na pagsayaw o paggalaw ng sinomang mananayaw na lalabas sa video.

7. Narito naman ang pamantayan ng paghuhusga para sa patimpalak HATAW PINOY:

Angkop ang mga kilos at galaw ng mga mananayaw ayon sa napiling katutubong sayaw ng strand – 30 pts
Mahusay ang koordinasyon, musika, at daloy ng lahat ng bahagi ng pagtatanghal – 30 pts
Malakas ang dating at talab ng modernong interpretasyon ng napiling katutubong sayaw sa madla (mga hurado) – 20 pts
Angkop, sumunod sa tema, at sumunod sa mga panuto ang napiling kasuotan, props, at video effects/editing (kung mayroon) ang buong pagtatanghal – 20 pts
KABUUAN: 100 puntos

8. Narito naman ang sign-up sheets para sa mga nais sumali mula sa bawat strand. Maaaring magpalista hanggang Oktubre 8, 2021, Biyernes, 5:00 ng hapon. Para sa mga magpapalista, hintayin ang kumpirmasyon mula sa inyong strand chairperson sa pagsali sa patimpalak na ito.

9. Pagpapasa ng mga Opisyal na Entries. Para sa pagpapasa ng opisyal na video entries ng bawat strand para sa HATAW PINOY, kailangang ipadala ang video entry sa email address ng Kagawaran ng Filipino: filipino.ashs@ateneo.edu. Isulat ang subject ng email sa format na ito: "HATAW PINOY_STRAND SUBMISSION" (Hal. HATAW PINOY_ABM SUBMISSION). Maaaring magpasa ng video entry ang mga sasali hanggang sa Oktubre 22, 2021, Biyernes, ika-5 ng hapon. Tandaan, isang opisyal na entry lamang mula sa mga inaprubahang kalahok ang tatanggapin mula sa bawat strand.

**Mga dapat isaalang-alang na technical requirements sa pagpapasa ng bidyo sa timpalak:
a. 720p maximum quality
b. Hindi hihigit sa 500mb ang file size
c. Nakapahigang oryentasyon o landscape
d. Nasa format na MP4
e. Ang video resolution ay maaring nasa 21:9 subalit kinakailangang 16:9 ang resolution ng mismong bidyong ipapasa.

Ang Hula-Hulahoop ay isang gimik sa pagdiriwang ng mga wika at kalturang Pilipino na naglalayong buhayin ang yaman at talinong katutubo sa ating mga PIlipino sa makabagong panahon. Iniaangkop ang paliwanag sa bugtong at kasabihan batay sa kaugnayan nito sa ating natatanging kultura at halaga sa buhay nating mga Pilipino. Ito rin ay nagpapatalas ng isipan ng mga kabataan, at maaring himukin pa sila na tumangkilik sa ating panitikan.

ll. MEKANIKS

Magpapahula ng 1 bugtong o kasabihan kada linggo sa mga estudyante sa buong buwan ng Setyembre hanggang Oktubre.
Hindi ito graded, at sadyang nag-uudyok lang upang mas makalahok ang bawat mag-aaral sa Buwan ng Wika.

It’s time to disconnect to reconnect with yourselves, ASHS.

The first quarter has been challenging, and the next couple of weeks will not be any easier. We would like to let you know that we are incredibly proud of you for making it through the first quarter of the school year! Do not look too far ahead; instead, focus on tomorrow. Focus on your present. There is plenty of time to improve your mental health while becoming more productive one day at a time.

Even the best of us can experience burnout. It is possible to be stressed without feeling fatigued. However, once your stress starts to affect your academic performance, social life, or overall health, it is your sign to take some time off of school and extracurricular work! Give your body and mind a break because they can be overworked, too!

The online setting has not been easy for any of us. Sometimes, we just need to take a step back and rest every once in a while. It’s common for us to feel overwhelmed. At the same time, know that being overwhelmed means that something is overpowering you. Regain control by clarifying your intentions, setting realistic expectations, and focusing on your next step.
Your energy is currency; make sure to spend it wisely.

Take time today to pause, linger, and quiet the noise. Remember that your worth is not measured by your productivity. With that in mind, here are some burnout prevention ideas presented by AthC and Mapulon that you can go over during the wellness break!

2022 is inching closer, and you know what that means…

It’s almost election season!

This 2022, we will see perhaps one of the largest demonstrations of democracy our country has ever seen.

After being through the toughest crises and enduring poor governance, it’s finally time for the Filipino people to speak up by casting their vote.

However, as we choose our candidates and as we empower others to go out and vote, it is still important to keep ourselves in check and think critically of the decisions we make. Campaign seasons in the Philippines are one of the most lively ones out there, but as much as it is an expression of our innate creativity, it still is a game of strategy.

Candidates make use of various tactics to maximize their chances of victory.

Therefore, to ensure that our democracy is protected, it’s important to make sure that we’re not being swept away too much by these tactics. But what are these tactics anyway?
