About This Book

This book weaves the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into a single story through shared characters, a common timeline, and an interconnected narrative structure. Each chapter can be read independently; yet the real power lies in the connections between them. The flood in Amara's village reaches all the way to Daniel's field, Soo-Yeon's laboratory, Lena's construction site, Rafael's ocean, and Kwame's negotiating table. The climate crisis is not a fragmented problem — it is a systemic, holistic crisis. And its solution must be holistic too.

As a genuine joint product developed within an international partnership, the book was brought to life through a relay-style writing process in which partner institutions built directly on one another's work. The process began with the founding institution establishing the shared characters and narrative framework; the partner institutions that took over this framework then carried the story forward into the next chapter without disrupting the existing characters or plotline. Each new chapter connected back to the previous one through a clue, a piece of data, or an event left behind — so that the book became the product of the entire partnership's shared effort, rather than the work of any single institution.

The book is structured into three main parts: Opening (SDG 1–5) — the faces of vulnerability and the roots of inequality; Development (SDG 6–10) — sustainable resource management and economic transformation; Deepening and Conclusion (SDG 11–17) — direct action, climate justice, and global partnership.
