One major plot point happens at the end of act one.
Betty wakes up and screams for her mother who is dead. She is speaking about fly, and Abigail tells her that she has told Paris everything. That is when Betty says that she didn't tell him everything. He glances at her, then goes to Betty on the bed.)...(looking at Abigail now, the faintest suggestion of
a knowing smile on his face)...(his smile widening)... (A trill of expectant laughter escapes her, and she dares come closer, feverishly looking into his eyes.)"(Miller 16) This is important because it gives the audience a look into their relationship through their body language.

Abigail (pulling her away from the window). I told him everything; he knows now, he knows everything we—
Betty. You drank blood, Abby! You didn’t tell him that!
Abigail. Betty, you never say that again! You will
never—
Betty. You did, you did! You drank a charm to
kill John Proctor’s wife! You drank a charm to kill
Goody Proctor!
Abigail (smashes her across the face). Shut it! Now shut it!"(Miller 15). I think this is one of the most important dialogues because it is when the true reason Abigail was out is the forest was revealed. It also starts to show more into Abi's manipulative side.

I think the main force driving the plot forward is the fear of the unknown. Nobody knows what is making these people ill, so they find an outrageous thing to blame everything happening. The fear of not knowing makes people find someone else to blame it on, such as how Mrs. Putnam blamed Rebecca Nurse for killing her babies, because she needed to be able to blame it on something. This fear on the unknown is still a driving force today. People don't know whats going to happen next, and that fear of the unknown leads to chaos.
