For this experience, I have decided to face the public when going up the escalator, while sitting down on the step and walking backwards, as my norm-breaking behavior.

I felt embarrassed when I was breaking the norms as it was not something a person would do on a normal daily basis. I felt uncomfortable as it was my first time doing it, I was worried if people will judge me for the actions I do. I told myself that it was not illegal to do what I did in the video, and just because it is not a normal thing to do, I cannot do it.

When I did those actions, I could see people looking at me. When I walked backwards in school, the group of boys behind me was looking at me, same goes for when I sat down facing the lady on the escalator when I was at the library. I do not think that their responses vary with age as they gave similar responses. They did not give me any disrespectful actions like frowning, they simply looked at me and then looked away.

Doing the unexpected will make one stand out from the crowd which will then gain peoples’ attention, in a positive or negative way. Either way, it will change the way how people look at the person. Values are something everyone has in them that they will adhere to, same as for school values, people will follow and obey them. Hence when someone does something that is out of the norm, it is like breaking a value. For that, that person will be treated differently. Breaking NP values will cause different stakeholders to be unhappy about it, and the person will then suffer the consequences of their actions.

For this social experiment, the norm-breaking behavior that I chose was to seat at a random table and start having conversations.

During this experiment, I felt awkward because it is not a norm to do in public. Other than that, I was anxious as I won't be able to expect the outcome of my actions. However, to handle my feelings, I keep on reminding myself that society has to make things that are awkward in
public a norm.

The public reaction to my behavior was a shock, awkward and uncomfortable. In the first video, the lady gave a nonverbal reaction by showing me an awkward face. Similarly, in the second video, the group of girls reacted with shocked and uncomfortable faces. In my opinion, It also depends on which location you're doing as in some places like libraries, the public will not give you the same reaction as both my videos.

Violation of social norms is a form of action that does not seems right. Violation of NP values is an individual disobeying the values. These two relates to each other by doing the opposite of what was given. Students who eat and drink at the lab did not take their responsibility seriously. In conclusion, this will affects the different stakeholders as they will feel disappointed and upset.

In he above video I have chosen to walk backwards into the lift/mrt cabin and out of it.

I felt quite embarrassed to be doing this because it is not something that people would usually do in public. It is also my first time doing something like this so it felt unnatural. However, I tried to cope with my feelings by telling myself that it would only be embarrassing if I felt embarrassed. As seen in the video, I also tried to calm myself down by laughing it off.

There wasn't much of a reaction from the public. The people who saw me mainly just looked at me and did not really judge me for my actions (except for the uncle in the first video)

Violation of social norms is not something to be seen on a daily basis. Hence, when one does something out of the social norm, they may be judged or viewed differently. When one violates the NP values, they are also doing something that many people may not be doing. As such, they are both related in a way where both involve doing something out of the ordinary. The violation of NP values can cause the stakeholders to feel disappointed.

1) In the video above, for the first part, my group mate stood on the right side of the escalator which is usually left empty for people who are rushing to walk instead of the left. In the second part of the video, we got others to walk backwards at the bus stop.

2) Whilst conducting our social experiment, I felt very embarrassed as I was very worried about the reaction that I would get from members of the public. I felt even greater embarrassment while filming the escalator video since I knew that members of the public would be very unhappy with our actions as it is basic courtesy to know not to block others while using the escalator. I told myself to let it slide to not get affected.

3) The man in the first part of the video tapped my group member's shoulder to ask him to make way for him to pass through. The reaction would have been the same regardless of the person's age or gender. In the second part of the video, the reaction varied as different people would react differently. As seen in the video, some people completely did not notice the group of students walking backwards while another person looked up and stared at the group of students.

4) Likewise, as we usually don't violate social norms, we wouldn't violate NP values as well. We are very well aware that we have to strictly adhere to these values or there would be consequences. Should NP rules be violated, there would affect the stakeholders differently. Eg: For parents, if they see that NP students are breaking rules, they would not want to let their child come to NP to study. For members of the public, they would develop a negative stereotype of NP, which can be disastrous to NP's reputation.

1. In the first one, my group member stood on the side of the escalator which is not meant for standing still, but instead for walking. In the second one, my friends and I walked backwards at the bus stop

2. I did not feel too embarrassing to me, possibly because the action was not too extreme or humiliating. And also, I knew that after whatever I did, the people that even did notice me would end up forgetting about it in like 5 minutes.

3. People did not really react, cuz the actions weren't very extreme. The man in the first clip who stood behind my group mate seemed a little irritated but he did wait patiently till my group mate moved aside. In the second one, there wasn't much of a reaction because others were simply just minding their own business and did not pay attention to what we were doing.

4. Violating social norms is not against the law, but feels wrong, as it stands out and makes you feel awkward. Similarly, violation of NP values is wrong and could cause irritation and problems to stakeholders

1. the first broken norm im committing here is standing at the wrong side of the escalator and wasting people's time who are stuck behind me. the 2nd broken norm is my friends walking backwards like aliens which is definitely not normal.
2. when breaking the norms, either filming or committing them, i felt quite anxious and nervous as i did not want to get laughed at by on-lookers or reported to social media drama pages like sgfollowsall and become infamous. however, if i were committing it unknowingly, i wouldn't feel this way as it is subconscious behaviour and i would not realise.
3. in the first broken norm, the guy who tapped my shoulder seemed kinda annoyed by the way he tapped me as it was a bit strong and rash. same was the way he said "excuse me" so that made me feel a little shitty. in the second one, nobody really reacted obviously but we were definitely getting looks from those at the bus stop.
4.violation of norms and violation of np values are sort of related as they both relate to morals, however they are not necessarily non mutually exclusive as well. breaking social norms, although not illegal, makes people give you the weird looks and the occasional grunt which makes you question yourself, and it depends on the severity of the act. if it is severe, it most likely breaks np values, but if less severe it most likely doesnt.

1. My group decided to basically sit next to a random stranger and start a conversation amongst ourselves
2. Honestly it was very embarrassing because it’s not a norm to approach a stranger and staring a random conversation with them .I think at first anxiety prevented us from approaching her, but eventually we were brave enough to get the task done. We used laughter as our coping mechanism as we felt less embarrassed by laughing than being serious.
3. she did not acknowledge our questions nor did she give us any attention after we sat next to her. At first she noticed us approaching her desk and after that she look visibly annoyed at our line of questioning probably.
4. Violating NP values affects everyone at Np as a whole as we are all supposed to be representing our school in a positive light, by being bad apples we bring a bad name to our school . We do not want to be known for the wrong reasons.

They didn’t really say anything but I think they just looked at me funny and the stall owner didn’t really say anything either they just looked at me in a weird way
4.

1. The first breaking norm that I did was to drink water using a disposable spoon. The second broken norm was to bowl in a different way from the normal bowling form.

2. As shown in the first video, I was very flustered and anxious and it could be shown from my trembling hands when pouring the water into the spoon. I kept looking around and nervously laughed it off. In the second video, I immediately headed to my friends after doing these norm-breaking behaviours as I was afraid of seeing how the members of the public would react to my behaviour. Needless to say, I was very embarrassed and had to calm myself down after doing these actions

3. In the first video, my friend initially thought that I was vlogging and did not mind it. It was only until I started pouring water into a spoon, then she started internally judging me. Towards the end, she was visibly confused and did not know what I was doing. In the second video, many people were mainly focused on bowling that they did not see my actions. However, my friends (aside from the one taking the video) were confused as it was different from the way I bowled the previous games.

4. Violating social norms is related to violation of NP values as breaking both norms affects NP's reputation in general. In this day and age, many can simply upload a video online on one's action and just one video can immediately destroy someone's reputation. Members of public will only remember NP as a bad school and many parents will be disheartened knowing that their children is in this type of environment.

1. in the first video, I asked someone for directions and then went the complete opposite way from what they showed. second, I stood in front of the doors to the mrt but with my back facing the doors instead of my front.

2. first scenario, it was quite tough for me to even approach someone and talk to them in the first place so I was very nervous and obviously embarassed after. second, it was very awkward as my audience were slightly older people and I felt very judged. I was also in the mrt so I was afraid they would think I'm being suspiscious or weird. but I just reminded myself that this was just an experiment and I wouldn't normally do this otherwise.

3. the 2 women in the 1st video didn't really have a dramatic reaction. when I first pointed to the wrong direction they politely corrected and redirected me. as I continued walking the other way, they simply left me be and continued walking. they probably just thought I was a lost NP student who didn't know their way around school. however in the public setting, these 2 older people were very confused and were extremely judging, understandably. the lady even looked me up and down and stared back at the camera once she noticed this out of the ordinary behaviour. both of them did not say anything, just confused glances at me. their reaction may have been like so due to the fact that they were slightly older people, so they probably thought I was one of those youngsters that like to do random, weird things to get attention in public.

4. violation of social norms can draw a lot of attention to you and in the instance where the violation could be harmful or strange, it could certainly misrepresent the school as a whole and give us a bad reputation.

My feelings did not vary much according to the frequency of the norm-breaking behaviour, because each time there were different people, and the amount of people around watching varied too. I was with my friends and it helped me feel more comfortable doing unconventional things.
3. They just glanced and looked away.
4. How we feel about violating social norms, should be the same as how we feel towards violating NP values. Violating NP rules will affect everyone as NP reputation would be at stake.

1) So for the first video my idea was to drink water with my friend. Instead of drinking it normally, i drank from the top-part of the cup and spill the water on the floor.
2) Instead of walking forward like we usually do, i walked backwards. Low-key felt embarrassing because the people at the side were judging.
3) In the third scenario, the idea was to sneeze and throw the tissue paper into the dustbin. Couldn't find one so i just swallowed it instead. #zerowastechallenge.
4)violating social norm will bring unnecessary attention and bring bad reputation/impression to oneself

1. The norm breaking experiment is that we decided to sit on a stranger’s chair and just start a conversation treating her like she was in our friend group.

2. Honestly we weren’t mentally prepared that time to conduct the experiment so we were just on the brink of laughing all the time when we were trying to stir up conversation with her. I felt I guess embarrassed and uneasy all the time I was sitting with her.

3. The stranger didn’t response to our experiment and it was making us feel uncomfortable as we didn’t know what to do next. She just sat quietly without saying anything to us or questioning our actions and we ended up just running away from the situation.

4. Breaking the social norm would attract negative attention from people and it can ruin a person's image or reputation along with the things that associated with them such as the school they went to which in this case is NP

1. The norm that we broke here was sitting on a table with random people without asking them for permission first. My friend also decided not to say anything to the girls at the table and just sit there staring at them.

2. It was quite embarrassing to watch my friend do this but it was also funny at the same time which is why the video has a background noise of our giggling. It did made me feel uncomfortable even though i was not the one who sat there but the judgmental faces of the girls made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed.

3. The girls were quite judgmental about what we were doing which is quite acceptable because there was a random person coming to sit at their table and stare at them. The just kept looking at each other with confused faces, probably trying to understand what was going on.

4. violation of social norms can attract a lot of unwanted attention towards you and if the violated norms are harmful, it displays a bad image of ourselves and of np.

1. What I did here was to go up to a group of people, sitting down with them without saying anything. Then making things awkward for them at the same time.
2. I felt really awkward and weird that I was doing this especially to a group of people that I did not know and talk to. At that time I had to just laugh it off and not make things more awkward for myself. In the end, I just laughed it off.
3. The people was just staring at my awkwardly without saying anything. I did not even dare to look at them at the point in time. However, in the first video, one of the girl waived to me, which made me felt a little more relieved. I believed they felt weird just like how I did. As they were of the same age, or younger, putting themselves in my shoe they would not do this as well.
4. violation of social norm can put the school values to no use. And may bring the school to a bad light infront of the public. It can affect the different people in many ways. For example, students. Students may feel embarrassed to be wearing the school shirt in public after a embarrassing video has been posted online with alot of hate comments. Members of the public will remember that moment and may see the school in a bad light from then onwards.

1) The norm breaking behaviour is that my friends and I were walking backwards while talking instead of walking forward.
2) I felt embarrassed as it is not normal for people to walk backwards and talk. However, I did feel a bit less embarrassed since my friends were doing it with me.
3) There were some people staring at us but to be honest, most people were minding their own business or at most stared at us for about 1-2 seconds only.
4) By students of NP violating NP values, it could damage the reputation of the school since the general public usually associates the behaviour of students with their schools. Violating NP values could also tarnish the image of the students’ families as the general public would feel that their parents have not raised their kids properly.

1) The social norm I broke is by eating all my food with just a fork.
2) I actually do not feel embarrassed at all as this has been a habit of mine since I was a kid, and I have never found it weird until my friends pointed it out to me.
3) My friends are normally the ones judging me and questioning me every other meal we have together. As you can see in the video reactions are typically strictly judgmental and rarely outspoken.
4) Violation of social norms may portray our school's students in a bad manner and therefore, directly impacting our school's image and reputation.

1) For my norm-breaking behavior, I decided to greet a stranger while we passed by each other, by waving to her and saying "hi".

2) I was quite hesitant when I first decided to do this as I thought that the other party would think weirdly of me. I just thought that it was rather awkward since people would normally not make any form of acknowledgement to a stranger.

3) The other party actually reacted by greeting back, to my surprise, since I thought that she would just look at me weirdly. I honestly think it was just an instinct for her to respond back to me, and perhaps she thought we knew each other but she just couldn't remember who I was. Her reaction was a lot better than I thought it would be, making me actually feel that what I did was not that embarrassing.

4) Violating social norms may reflect badly on oneself as it attracts (mostly) bad attention to one and create an odd impression on others. This will then also lead to a poor impression of related stakeholders. Social norms and NP values are related in the sense where both are generally expected to be followed by everyone and not following them may result in a bad impression of oneself.
