Almost everyone has fell victim to these single stories, especially those coming from less popular places on a worldwide scale, like the Caribbean. Upon meeting people from outside of the Caribbean, they often think of the Caribbean as islands with nice beaches, coconut trees, bareback individuals who make up the entire population and poorly developed communities. However, persons in the Caribbean are well informed and educated about these superior countries such as the US and Europe. I believe this is so because of the lack of information presented on the Caribbean compared to the great amount of information that is fed to the Caribbean population about those superior countries. Most of this information is smuggled through the foreign literature and molds the thinking of individuals from the Caribbean to see the US and Europe as an easy gateway to success or to a better life. The images portrayed to them through foreign literature and movies broadcasted on our local television persuades the viewer to develop this perspective and in turn desire a VISA. In contrast, local masterpieces, where Caribbean heritage is appreciated and portrayed are not as popular on a global level, only locally.
