One each page the authors uses words in a different print to bring attention to what is taking place like ice melts, spring sounds, waking up, pond families, etc... Several   new vocabulary identified like migrated and tadpoles provides definition in the glossary. In the very back an activity to make a paper plate frog. <br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Discuss events that take place when seasons changes, difference or changes in the environment. Can be used to take about land forms like ponds and animals that live there or what makes it not a lake or river.        </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Read:2/10/17<br>Genre: Nonfiction 2009      Age/Audience K-5th Grade  <br><br></div><div>Starts off with an illustration with animals and different colors of the rainbow. Then the story focuses on the color red using a leaf with red ladybugs, red animals like Scarlet ibis, monkey Bald uakari, North cardinal, Great frigate bird, Cora Pacific giant octopus. At the end of the book a guessing game and map of where all the animals  live is available.</div><div>Teaching point: Talking about nouns that are common and proper. Characteristic of various animals and things that are similar or different. Could also use book to talk about regions in the world and animals that inhabit these areas.  </div>]]></description>

The author talks about bacteria and how you cannot see them but they live on fruit, counters, meats etc....It also talks about how they live in warm and cold environment and how all are not bad. Food like yogurt has bacteria and its okay for humans. Mold, mildew and fungus are discuss providing examples.<br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Teachers can use this book during Science to introduce life forms, living and nonliving. Also, helpful and harmful bacteria. <br><br></div>]]></description>

Next, he talks about seeds being important, diagram is shown identifying where seeds are located in a plant/flower. Detailed description about how seeds transfer, can be found in the plant. Lots of great examples of different types of seed, Realistic illustrations used to make relatable. <br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Introduction to a seed and how it creates food and plants that are require for lots for animals and people. You could use and then actual allow students to plant a variety of plants/seeds.  <br><br></div>]]></description>

Then the author goes right into answering that question. An excellent drawing of a plant is provide breaking down the components of a plant with words. Takes about air, sunlight and food being elements a plant needs to grow. Talks about seeds with comparisons using adjectives. Throughout the story questions are asked then answered. Glossary provided with definition and pronunciations. Beautiful pictures.<br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Introduction to living things and what is needed. Can use to talk about adjectives. Talk about what a question is and words used when asking one like what, when, where, why and how. &nbsp;<br><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Glossary provides detailed definitions to words evacuate, evaporates, floods, forecast, power lines, satellites and water vapor. I think this book because it provides every little aspect of things associated with a hurricane nothing more is needed.<br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Natural disasters, clouds, wind and the weather. Events that were huge that have taken place in the United States.</div>]]></description>

The author breaks the text up in to individual areas which include a picture. Ever two pages in this story provides and illustration of an animal then a weird fact and information. For example, a Cactus wren is a type of bird that lays its egg in a cactus to keep enemies away. I like the way some words are in bold print. <br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Fact or opinion. Use facts from story and then allow them to create an opinion based off of what they think once story was read. Or you could have student look at pictures first and say what they think the weird fact will be. <br><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Provides Fact Tracker on the outskirts of the pages.Younger students would have to be read to from this story. <br><br></div><div>Teaching point: Student create a timeline based off the facts of heroes that are identified in the book and see if any connections can be made amongst these heroes that changes our history&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

I like this book because it also teaches doubles. <br><br>Teaching point: Use this book to introduce or review adding or subtraction. Also you could give students manipulative that are the actual candy. <br><br></div>]]></description>

Excellent illustration just enough facts where younger children will not be overwhelmed and might motivate older children to explore these animal facts a little deeper. <br>Teaching point: This book does have a small glossary in the back, but others word in this book that are not included could have student to look up additional words using the dictionary for definition. Great introduction to a lesson about the animal kingdom. </div>]]></description>
