this lesson, especially the study about the kids who were treated as better became better and the students who were treated as average stayed average, made me think about my experience in elementary school. I have a twin brother, he was put into Mrs. Moons class, supposedly, all the "smarter" gifted kids were in Mrs. Moons class, and I was in Mrs. Campbells class, supposedly all the smart but not "special" kids were in that class, and a few other teachers had the "underachievers" it turned out that the mindset they gave us about what kinds of learners we were became true. I think this absolutely impacted me especially watching my brother become a straight A student and I knew I was just average so I never applied myself as much as I should have.

My high school teachers got me through to graduation, and I wouldn't have finished without them. I got kicked out of my grandma's at 16, and my parents and siblings left her house with me. We lived at a campsite for months, then moved around hotels over summer break, until we ended up at what honestly was a crack house and my entire family stayed in a room with black mold on the ceiling and rats all over the floor, the floor my brothers slept on. My parents started using, and I started missing school because I was in a different county than my school and my dad was the only form of transportation I had. I was starving because there wasn't enough food for me and my two teenage brothers, plus my baby sister who was 3-4 at the time, so I gave them my food and only ate what free food I got at school. My teachers kept communication with me when I wasn't able to attend, let me makeup assignments I missed, and kept extra snacks for me. I had one teacher who even put together hygiene kits for my siblings and I, and sent me home with snacks before breaks. I went into teaching because of these teachers who helped me through the most difficult point of my life, and I hope I can help any future students I have in any way I can.
