Stalingrad turned the war on the Eastern Front on it's head as over 91,000 Nazi soldiers surrendered and the German invasion of the Soviet Union stalled. On the opposite side, the United States successfully lured the Japanese into an ambush at Midway and destroyed 4 of their aircraft carriers, effectively putting the Japanese on the defensive for the rest of the war.

Late War And The Atomic Bomb

The United States started the Manhattan Project and created the ultimate form of destruction, the Atomic Bomb, to force the Japanese Emperor into unconditional surrender.
