When I traveled around the world, I met many different artistic things that people use in their everyday lives. Among other things, I encountered wonderful seeds from India called Rudraksh seeds or Shiva tears. While I was watching traditional markets for crafts in Pointe a Pitre in Guadeloupe, I notice that also here the Rudraksh seeds are used for decoration of the body, like nekles and bracelets. That was only one handmade object, that show us how mixed cultural heritage is in this beautiful island.

Today I was really moved by the story about slavery in Guadeloupe. Visiting Pointe a Pitre gave us a chance to buy some artisanal products and meet the people who still make them. I also bought some groseille tea for my sister.

I was extremely touched by the museum’s exhibition about the slave history and know I will feel a lot more competent in teaching this obligatory topic in my graduation classes. It was such a smart and overwhelming mode of presentation the museum offered.
Experiencing the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere afterwards on the market relieved my sorrowful mind and it was great to see all the colours again.

The visit of the slavery museum was impressive and depressing at the same time. I was really touched by the realistic documentation of the history. At the end of the audio guide you could hear a happy song - happy because we have to create a happy future to make people happy every day!

Our visit the Memorial museum in Pointe a Pitre had a big impact on me. Although i did know a lot about slavery in the Caribbean and "the americas" the exibition was very graphic and as a guest you get a little closer to understanding the unbeliveable pain and hardship slaves had to endure

Accepting that culture is fluid, dynamic and always changing erases the negativity that was associated with the first attempts to define the culture as a set of specific features that belong to a single culture. In reality the culture is constantly evolving and taking new forms and shapes but always built on the heritage that was passed to us by the society we grew up in. The cultural heritage lives and flourishes through the creativity of people no matter of political, economical or geographical situation.
Photo: Catch the Dream of Guadeloupe - a dream catcher originated in Native American culture. In English the word "dream" has two meanings - a vision you see when you sleep and a cherished inspiration or ambition. I caught a dream of Guadeloupe using the original form but presenting the objects and colours associated with Guadeloupe as it is the place where I can realise my most cherished dream.
