The other using soda crystals during steep. (My girlfriend is doing a PhD in natural dyes in leather industry) and has experience. She believes basic solutions for polyphenol extraction is better!

I tried this - completely inactive for film developer. However, very good for print developer (when additional vitamin C and soda crytals added)

Unsure why as pH was still very low (13?)

Exposure time from enlarger is same as usual paper?? - 4h14m (different answer from Esme via instagram) Different approaches.

Developer time - 2 minutes - temperature changes (colder) to 10 minutes. Staining changes with temperatures. Trial and error. (by inspection)

3h 51m. Boil brews for 15 minutes for phenol extraction as balance between degradation and extractions.

3h 54m. (METHODOLOGY) Photographer who doesn't like pictures. Abstraction. Really appreciate this. Process over image. --- The solidity of the image and how to disregard this. Answer about archive and reusing images. Not taking/making more. Reducing waste (of image). Utilising from nature to use it... but to keep intact. Contrast in image (definition) shapes which have wellbeing/restorative effects.

Also takes mystery out of process.

Struggle without videographer/putting camera on tripod - very undynamic.

Showing site increases specificity. Takes the ambiguity out of work. (makes it individual instead of collective - meaning that someone else can do process)

Also struggle with myself in frame!

Therefore, this work is being replaced by installation idea/tent/artifacts of process.

“In 2019 I founded an initiative called The Sustainable Darkroom which is basically a kind of platform and research and learning initiative to support other practitioners in finding their own more environmentally friendly approach to working with analogue photography.” (16:26)

“I knew that I needed collective knowledge and the help of scientists and experts, which is why I kind of thought I need to make something that is going to bring together lots of people to really work in this way of activism and community resilience. Because I really believe that these forms of actions are some of the most powerful ways that we can move forward in society.” (18:51)
