Tesla Supercharger

Tesla has been the first electric vehicle (EV car in Malaysia) to successfully create a supercharging station located in Malaysia, with an official launch scheduled for July 20, 2023. The goal of the supercharger service was to make it possible for owners of Tesla vehicles to charge their vehicles. One of the early locations revealed is Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, which has eight superchargers that are operational 24/7 a day. These seem comparable to Tesla's V3 DC chargers, which incorporate liquid cooling and have a 250kW peak power output. According to Tesla's website, consumers may get up to 270 kilometres of range and a quick 15-minute charge from the charging stations.

According to Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Zafrul, Tesla is required to deploy 50 DC chargers by 2026, with at least 15 of them open to other EV vehicles. The Tesla Supercharger network will assist the Malaysian government in meeting its objective of 10,000 EV chargers nationwide by 2025.

According to Tesla, it will have its own payment method and access to the Tesla Supercharger will be through the Tesla app. Supercharging payments are completed automatically depending on the registered payment method in the Tesla app. Idle fees may also be enforced, as this would assist avoid hogging by fully charged EVs, according to the Tesla Malaysia website. If the charge session is complete but the car is still occupying a Supercharger, idle costs will be assessed. Idling costs about RM1.72 per minute, and it increases to about RM3.43 per minute when the station is fully used.

Malaysia has a tiny but rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) market. Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) increased significantly in 2021 to 2,717, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), from 1,642 in 2020. At the press conference for the 2022 annual review, Dato Aishah, President of the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), stated that "2022 was a big jump (for EVs) because of the zero percentage tax (import and excise duty) incentives."

In Malaysia, the share of electric vehicles (EVs) in total vehicle sales is still quite low, at 0.4%. In the upcoming years, the industry is anticipated to expand, though, as the government aims to have 125,000 EVs on the road by 2030.
