The quote simply means that God holds on to you, so you don't go into the damnation of hell. The context is God is holding you right now at any moment he can let go but he doesn't. Edwards uses this to encourage his listeners to turn back to the faith. The significance of this quote is that it is explaining about what the first encounters will be before reaching the depths of hell of the devil. This quote means that Jesus Christ has given everyone a multitude of mercy and opened the door for all sinners to repent and be saved by the Lord. The context is God being his almighty being sending his son to Earth to die and save those from their sins. Edwards uses this to make them feel sorrow that someone has died fro their sins and they should rejoice be glad and come back. It relates to the theme because it shows that Christ saved everyone from damnation.
