Downside to collaborative activities in the classroom: Over time, some students become dependent on others in their group to do the bulk of the work. High achievers may become resentful of being expected to carry the load if others aren’t showing effort. Personally (Kris) have seen many examples of this at the high school level. Ideally, students won’t have that issue if it is caught and addressed properly at the elementary level.
