Stick with me here. Mental illness makes everyone's life worse, but can we fix it? Absolutely not. There is no "solution" and for most problems there isn't. If I said "a major problem is global warming and we fix it by just stopping doing the things that cause it." That wouldn't really work. It's like that for almost all problems, because let's face it- the human race will always be out of line and we will never all be on the same page. So I'll just say there is no solution. Mental illness in particular really dabilitates people. For some, they can't leave their house and for some, they just get so depressed they just end up killing themselves. Granted, my example is extremely dark, but everything in life is just dark if you think about it. The government strikes fear in the arms of the public, why? Because fear is easy to control and rule. And fear leads people to believe anything that strikes hope in their heart to fix these problems that just "come up". Mental illness is no exception. To be quite fair, mental illness is something that should be publicised more, but why doesn't the government do that? Because it just doesn't make them enough money long term. Mental illness is usually just fixed by a tiny little pill that magically fixes you. And the truth of the matter is, is that nothing can really help mental illness except the person that experiences it opens up to the idea that they are either being irrational or not irrational enough. Nothing can fix mental illness, there is no "cure" there is only "treatments" and nobody feels like anybody understands. Not necessarily with law, tho there are some laws that hold back equality, but with how we treat people. Women are still often doubted in their abilities as adults in the work force or made fun of for not being a perfect model prep girl as a teenager. Men and boys are still made fun of for showing emotion or being kind hearted or for liking stereotypical "feminine" things. The LGBTQ community is still treated horribly by peers and employers, whether it be via bullying or by refusal to allow the same opportunity in the job. People of colour still have some people who are racist towards them or make their life harder than a caucasian person would be treated. Poor/homeless people are stereotyped as druggies or lazy when thats often not the case at all. I wish people could all be treated the same, for everyone to be safe and happy in life, but there will always be at least a minority of people who treat others poorly for living their life as their authentic self. We are walking in the right direction, especially when you look at even 30 years ago, but it could always be better especially right now. Theres a lot of groups who work towards total equality and awareness things that help show everyone we are all the same. Dont shame your bro having a hard time, dont shun lgbt people, dont think less of someone for anything about them. If you see someone acting poorly step in.
