A 'Need' in Life (college essay)

Being born on the other half of the world and moving to Maryland at the age of three, television was the first source of learning and understanding the English language. After being one of those kids glued to the television, reading just clicked in. I wasn’t the fastest or the best at reading, especially in front of people, but I was able to fluently read and understand what was going on in the story. My earliest memory of reading was school work and books. Stories that weren't interesting enough to finish made it hard to focus and made it unenjoyable. Being forced to read made me hate reading; I wouldn’t go home and continue where we left off. On the other hand, writing it almost seems like drawing shapes if you think about it. I can’t recall the first time I started writing, but I do know that most of the writing was connected with school work.

The basic things I learned like reading, writing, and simple math were at school; learning how to write essays, letters, poetry, journal entries, and summarizing articles to name a few things. As a kid, I’d hate being forced to do things, especially when we had to write a lot. Poetry was the only form of writing I enjoyed; when it was on my own time, it wasn’t getting graded, and there was no deadline for when it is due. I’d make small stories that would never be finished. Poetry to me was personal and deep; stories that needed to get out somehow. They were enjoyable to read and write, having a lot of emotions even when they were short.

The other various writing I’ve learned is more like work, so I get them done and think nothing of it. The times I might use them is when there are assignments, sending a professional letter for a job, writing a book, or others things that need to be in detail for whom your sending it to. Reading on the other hand is everywhere; wanting to go somewhere you're gonna need to read something. Deciding to do any type of job or just even survive in society, you’ll need to be able to read; it is everywhere in our daily lives, but knowing how to write might be different. We have the technology and use buttons that give us the letters in our handheld screens or computers. The times we actually write down something is when we are either in the profession of arts, tattooing, or signing our signatures. Any other time we’re using technology to type things in. Growing up we were taught how to read and write, making sure our handwriting is legible, making sure we can spell things correctly.

It is important to know these things; for some, they practice to make their writing better, either because of the job they chose to have or even a major they are trying to accomplish. I’m not trying to become a famous author, not trying to work at a place where I’m on the computer 24/7. I’m working towards my future, better my skills, and finding myself as an individual. Poetry is one thing that can help me when I need to calm down, relax, and it also helps me practice my writing .

In conclusion I'm not going far to be noticed, but far enough to have work, make money, and have a place to stay. I will work hard enough to make that a possibility if I’ve done enough to be stable in life so why not try harder. If I’m satisfied in my position in life, when that moment comes, I might as well work harder to be noticed. I don’t want to get bored with life; if I’m satisfied and if I’m still young and able I’d make a title for myself before I go.
