A New Beginning

We chose this headline because it is Nick introducing himself in the story and who he is. Another thing that inspired us to choose this headline is that it’s just the introduction of the Great Gatsby and the narrator which is nick, we just really learn about his upbringing in his family & a few lessons his family taught him.
So with all these things going on a “new beginning” is a perfect headline since we are trying to understand and get a good foundation of this narrator.

Finding this place

We chose this headline because it shows Nick being introduced & meeting people who are wealthy, there is a mysterious place nick sees called the valley of ashes he believe it represents the lose mortality & tradition. The headline “Finding this place” is a good headline because it represents the characters nick sees who have no sense of having morals anymore and are just there for the good looks. Find my place represents nick understanding the lose of tradition from the earlier years, and how society is changing and making a long stretch from it. So with that nick is trying to find where he belongs with the morals he has and what he wants to do carry on his shoulders such as the people who he puts himself around to achieve his goals.

Amoral Living

We chose this headline because Nick gets invited to Gatsby's party and sees how wealthy he is and with all the people he invited. Nick notices that Gatsby hosts these parties very often and is curious as to who Gatsby really is. He finds it strange that he doesn't really do much at the parties and is doing his own thing. Nicks curiosity about gatsby & all the people there shows how he senses he is not where he is supposed to be and that the people around him are going through life amorally.

Revered and Attainable

It is attainable because Nick/ the narrator is trying to pursue a career near NYC the American dream is all about having a vision of a goal you want to do, keeping it true to yourself and taking any action to achieve that dream. Nick wants to he does not live in a big house but it’s all about coming how you finish so with that being said in chapter 1 nick comes off as a man who wants to live a hood life by himself so far and pursue a new career and start his life fresh in West egg making this a a total attainable. Nick dream is to be in the upper class in his life time and he lives right next to Gatsby who has a nice mansion himself so based off that this is also another factor that could motivate nick to achieve his dream. (Page 7)

Corrupt & unattainable

It is Corrupt & unattainable because, in this chapter a lot of immoral things happen such as Nick meeting toms mistress Myrtle, which is weird because Tom is his cousin daisy's husband. This can explain when they get off the train why the encounter the “valley of ashes.” Which represents as a symbol of
moral decay in society. If nick is surrounded by people like this the American dream is non existent people like Tom who abuse women and show no standards for themselves. (Page 30, 31)

It is unattainable if you want to live the american dream like this. everyone at Gatsby's party live their lives like there is no meaning behind what they do. There is recklessness within it especially with all the parties being held at Gatsby’s house. There is more than partying to keep the American dream, it seems like these people don’t do anything at all with just seemingly showing up at his parties. Sure the American dream for Gatsby could be alive with all the luxurious items he has, but at the same time how does he even get this money?
(Page 43, 44, 45.)

Corruption is the perfect headline for chapter 4, nick first thought Gatsby was a great man initially when he first saw him and hear of him, it is always questionable with how these wealthy men get money when the places they come from do not add up to how they got there today in this case it’s the same for Gatsby. Especially considering people at Gatsby's party have also heard rumors about him & what he has done in his life. So with that it leads to a wide variety of suspicion amongst all for nick.

It is unattainable because Gatsby starts to seem skeptical in Nick's perspective. Fakeness is shown of all the good that there appears to be. Indicating everything isn't as good as they appear to be. It is shown in page 87.
