Telescope vs Binoculars

Telescope: one thing in great detail
Binoculars: many things w/o detail

If you look up at the sky with a teloscope, you might be able to focus on one star at a time. You can see this one star with relative detail and thus are able to learn about it.
If you look with binoculars, you're no longer confined to one star. You are able to see the whole expanse of the stars and move around ans see more and more. However, they are not in great detail, and it becomes increasingly difficult to learn in-depth about each star because of the limitations in time, resources, etc.

The same goes for information. You can focus on one thing at a time and learn in-depth about it, but if you zoom out, you can no longer see with clarity. You see all the things that you can learn about, but you can't zoom in on one particular thing without neglecting other things, and you will know that you can't understand those other things until you zoom in on them. Since you know that those things exist, but you also know that you don't know about them, you doubt your information about them and how much you know about them.

Since you're aware of how little you know about them, you might make the connection that those things you don't know about may affect the things you do know about. Since you know that you dont know about those known unknowns, you now have reason to doubt your knowns because they might be influenced by unknowns that you don't understand. In that way, you lose confidence in what you do know because of what you don't know.
