Every Day Physical Activity

Good morning students! This morning I'll be posting about the potential of having mandatory physical education classes throughout all of your years of school, not just finishing in grade 9. As it stands currently in our education system, students are not required to take physical education past grade 9. This raises concerns to me as we are well aware of the obesity pandemic across North America that exists as obesity rates continue to increase. One astonishing fact is that this is the first generation that will not have as long as life expectancy as our parents! That is crazy to wrap your head around! So my question is: why should PE be mandatory? Please include in your post some benefits of physical activity as well as your own experiences in PE classes. To conclude your post I want you to vote whether you approve of mandatory PE or not.
Thanks,
Mr. H

Hi Mr. H,

In my past experience I’ve found that I feel so much better after participating in a PE class. My body feels better and most importantly my mind does too! I also agree that we should have mandatory PE after grade 9. I have asthma and my doctor told me that exercise is very important to keep my lungs clean and healthy. He told me that it can help my heart and all sorts of other things! I vote yes to mandatory PE!

Matt

Physical Health and Education class is very important for our generation. I believe that PE class is not only an opportunity for physical activity, but it also gives us students an opportunity to build new friendships/relationships. Sports have a way of brining people together and I believe that PE class does the same. Not everyone has the ability to play sports outside of the school, so PE class gives students an opportunity to try new sports. This can lead to a growing affinity for a sport, as well as a way these students can have PA almost every day. I believe students enjoy the opportunity to blow off steam in PE class as well as all of the health related benefits. For that reason I vote yes for mandatory PE.

Devan
