The flag of america changed from its original 13 states flag in 1777 to their latest 50 states flag in 1960. Even though between that period, there was a drastic change of the amount of stars in the flag, the number of stripes and colours of the flags were kept constant. Like Singapore Art Museum, over the years they have changed many many many many different kinds of exhibition. However, one thing that was kept constant was that their building colour has always been kept the same white so as to preserve the building that used to be mission school

Through the modernisations and developments, korean natives no longer stay in traditional hanoks, instead, they stay in developed houses and apartments, which were influenced by the western culture, from the 19th century onwards. Instead, the clusters of hanoks are now converted into tourists sites such as the Bukchon Hanok Village. Just like CHIJMES, as the place was used to be a school and a worship ground, however it is now converted into a commercial ground with restaurants and bars.

The Hanok in Korea has existed since the 14th century, and korean natives do not live in hanoks anymore. However, they do not do any drastic changes to it so as to preserve the part of the history. Similarly, like Raffles hotel, even though they are going through renovation, they make it a point where they do not make any drastic changes (it looks the same since 1887) so as to preserve the part of the history they have.

HISTORY - we realised that alot of places that we have visited were influenced heavily by the european culture and were also set up in the 19th century (bc sg was under the british colonial rule) hence they were more likely to look european instead of asian, e.g. Singapore Philatelic Museum, SAM. However, Korea looked completely different in the 19th century, Korea were more heavily influenced by the Chinese and asian roots and only modernised in the 1900s, they also existed since the B.C's hence, they have much deeper roots compared to the places that we visited.

Gender norms has been around since a long time ago and it is no doubt seen in both western and asian culture. After a trip to the peranakan museum, it is evident that the ladies played an extremely domestic role at that point of time (they basically did not see what was beyond their houses and was expected to know how to sew bead slippers and cook dishes before she is suitable for marriage, then she is also responsible for taking care of the household and BEAR MALE CHILDREN ;)). Similarly to cultures now, in both Korea and the USA, even though there is lesser emphasis on ladies playing a domestic role, but ladies are still expected to play at least some sort of domestic role in the house hold.
