• What experiences do you share with the characters?

  I do not share the same experiences from these characters because my family is not like their family.

• In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?

  They are different because they always put their kids ahead and always make sure we have clothes and are doing well in school with good grades and we have rules as well.

• What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?

  I learned that they move around a lot from town to town each time which I do not know anyone who is like that.

• Social Class

  Social issue is present in her life because they are always moving away from different locations each time. They always go to new locations and have lived in different places like in California or in Arizona. They are always moving around because they do not have enough money to pay the landlord since they barely even have enough to buy themselves food in order to survive. Their parents also show us how they are low in the social class since they always spend their money irresponsible and spend it on dumb things. They spend it on booze and other stuff instead of paying rent or food for their kids and they jump from job to job each time so they do not earn much.

• I found this quote interesting because it really shows how good at parenting her parents are by letting a 3 year old cook hot dogs. Jeannette Walls(pg.9)

4. Some figures of speech used are similes and hyperbole because the dad exaggerates in some of his stories especially when he says stories to his daughter.

   9. The authors dialogue is really effective because in every chapter we learn more stuff about their past or what the parents did and their backstory.

Does the text hold the same opinion or perspective of the world as you have? What is there you consider wrong and why? (Use examples, quotes to raise an argument or to discuss your opinion).

No the text does not hold the same perspective as the world that I have and something I consider wring is that they jumped the zoo bars to get closer to the cheetah habitat and petting it."I could hear people around us whispering about the crazy drunk man and his dirty little urchin children, but who cared what they thought? None of them had ever had their hand licked by a cheetah.

I found this quote interesting because the dad put their kid in danger even if nothing happened something could of gone wrong and the dad would be the only person at fault because he does not really think about the actions he does and he acts before doing them which shows us that he is not really suited to be a father.

Health is present here because Rex the father put the daughter at risk by going really close to the enclosure of the cheetah and letting the daughter pet the wild animal. There are also other times where they do not really value their kids health like when Brian got a deep wound and they did not take him to any doctor because the dad does not believe in them. They also refused to buy Lori's glasses at first because they didn't think that she needed them since she can train the eye until they did not let her attend school and offered to pay for them. There are very few occasions where they actually take them to the hospital one is because Jeanette burned herself. Lastly the one way that they do not care of their kids health is that they do not care of little scratches or if they do get hurt for playing around because they say it builds resilience and teaches them instead of treating their wounds and taking the risk of it getting infected.

My family is different from theirs because we did not suffer from violence growing up and my father did not suffer from drinking too much alcohol since my father does not drink and he stopped drinking years ago.

1. How are class differences presented in the work? Are the characters aware or unaware of the economic and social forces that affect their lives?

   Classes are presented differently here because of how they view other people who are less fortunate and people are aware of the economic social forces because they see in what class they are and how they are different from other people when they see what other people have and bring to school.

   
   

The social issue that is presented here is violence. Violence is presented here because of what either the dad does to them or what happens to them on a day to day basis. The dad puts them through a lot of violence because of the amount of alcohol that he drinks on a day to day basis. An example of this is when he ruined their Christmas by setting their tree that they got on fire and by throwing lots of stuff when he is drunk. They also get bullied a lot at school because they always move a lot so they get bullied because they do not have friends since they really do not have time or because they do not like the way they look so the kids at that school bully them for their appearance.

Jeanette ask her dad if for her birthday if maybe the dad can stop drinking for good now and the dad seemed kind of sad from her request that she made and he is asked to be left alone for a while and he ties himself up to his bed for a while in order to stop drinking and a couple days later he releases himself from the ropes which he seems fine being sober and then a couple of days later he goes back to drinking and is back to his usual self of being a drunk father.

• What experiences do you share with the characters?

  I do not share any experiences from any characters but One that is kind of similar is that I went to the zoo when I was younger but never got to pet a cheetah

  
  

• In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?

  My family is similar because we are close and me and my brothers always stand up for one another even if we are not there with them we will stick up for one another.

  
  

• What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?

  I have never experienced moving a lot unlike the walls family because I am still currently living in the same house that I grew up in unlike them who have moved a lot to get away from certain situations that the dad has put them through.

"Mom never told dad that I'd urged her to leave him, That summer he still thought of me as his biggest supporter "

(Walls 189) I chose this quote since to me I love my father and my mother and I would never want them to separate from each other but seeing her begging her mother to leave her father is kind of surprising to me since I thought that she really loved her father but now wants her to leave her father behind since she is kind of looking at him like he is the cause of all the problems that they have and the reason that they are living like this which part of it is true but the same thing can be said about her mother since they both do not want to work but focusing the attention on why her father is being the odd one out is crazy to me since I would never look down upon my own father or mother.

• In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?

My family is different from the Walls family in the book because we do not beg our mother to separate with my father and we do not do this because we want them to stay together so we can have a better life in order to not have a messed up life.
