Organizational culture of communication may be defined as the working culture of communicating which dictates how people, employees or workers, colleagues, shareholders, and customers among others, communicate or interact. The communication culture imperative for a positive organizational culture entails freedom and openness to encourage people to share information, ideas, and feedback. Communication can be described as the foundation for trust, the reduction of conflict, and better decision-making. It can be written, for example, in the form of e-mail or, verbally during a discussion or meeting, and it can be informal, as during a conversation or in an instant messenger. How feedback is provided or how conflicts are managed equally has implications for the improvement of the desirable communication climate. The communication that is practiced in the organizations provides employees with feelings of worth and hence they work harder and happily too. On the other hand, no or ineffective lines of communication generate confusion, resist information sharing, and reduce morale. In today’s working environment exploiting globalization, as well as modern types of work, which are called hybrid, a new communication culture is necessary when using tools that are virtual and new forms and methods of work. This is important because leadership opens up or thwarts certain channels in organizational communication and the leaders’ communication shows how communication can be in an organization. Finally, the communication culture of organizations determines the organizations’ success and fosters appreciation, respect, and efficiency of communication that enhances organizational performance, creativity, and employees’ health.

Listening and writing are two key developmental communication skills that enable interactions in the workplace. Listening is the total process that involves acquiring, interpreting, and processing spoken communication. Listening skills guarantee the right interpretation of what has been said, encourage teamwork, and minimize cases of miscommunication. There are several types of listening:

1. Active Listening: Listening with concern and detailing how to go through the process including listening to the speaker while observing their body language and then using appropriate words in order to answer.

2. Reflective Listening: Paraphrasing: New: Summarizing: New: Reflecting: New: Reflection of feelings: New:

3. Critical Listening: Interpreting and judging the contents of the message to make reasonable decisions, usually in decision-making or problem-solving.

4. Empathetic Listening: Actively listening to the information being said, to evaluate the sentiment or opinion of the speaker with the result of developing trust and encouragement.

5. Selective Listening: Paying attention to some parts of conveying information while deemphasizing other parts, which makes a process of distinguishing between critical information.

Communication itself can take various forms, each suited to different contexts and goals:

1. Verbal Communication: Verbal communication includes written and spoken words and is applied when talking to people directly, on the phone, or at meetings, for instance, to pass simple and businesslike information.

2. Non-Verbal Communication: Paralinguistic features such as gesticulation; proxemics, which refers to the use of space; and eye contact as parts of communication that can support or negate spoken words.

3. Written Communication: Messages which can be written and which are used to pass information in a more official or even permanent manner.

4. Visual Communication: As a way of advancing data and ideas into charts, graphs, and images;

All the types of listening and communication contribute towards effective professional communication and shared meaning.

Verbal and non verbal communication

Tone and Body Language

Communication is a process, which occurs between two or more people where one becomes the user of the transmitter of process information. It is further divided into two types: verbal and non-verbal.

Verbal Communication is that communication where written or spoken words are used for the purpose of conveying message. WE call it direct communication through which the sender is able to transmit thoughts using words. Not only in the case of these two types of communications, where everything is shrouded in grammar, syntax and vocabulary, does it make sense if the speaker can eloquently voice out the opinion. Written communication encompass any form of information exchange via printed or spoken language including face to face discussions, telephone or written messages. Even the:10 tone, pitch, and speed of words can supplement to the basic meaning — and also transform how the receiver perceives it.

Whereas Non-Verbal Communication communicates messages that are in word forms. That encompasses things like movement of the body, the face, the hands, the position of the body plus the space between the communicators (proxemics). Probably, emotions can be expressed non-verbal in a much purer way to explain or strengthen or disbelief, the verbal message. For example if a person is smiling while speaking it means that he is friendly while crossed arm means either one is defensive or uncomfortable. This is because it shows actual feelings and perceptions which may never be expressed in spoken word..

There is no compromise between both the approach of communications which are entirely facilitating in nature. The speaking was the content, the nonverbal enclosed it and saturated and verbalized its affective tone. Surely, you might tell that “I approximate safe” but if your body code indicates guilty to eye, or slouched shoulders. In simple terms, effective communication entails being aware of the time to speak, what to say with your mouth and when to stop speaking, but use other forms of communicating clearfix, persuasive, and genuine messages.

Interviewing

Interviewing: Key Concepts and Skills

Interviewing is a communication technique used for obtaining information, determining eligibility, or estimating fitness for a position, program or assignment. The ability to interview is an essential aspect of any employment process, learning, research, or any other area of practice and the following points should be noted when conducting the interview Interviewing is a complex exercise which involves preparation, communication skills and critical evaluation of responses.

Types of Interviews

Depending on the nature of the study and the objectives being set, there are four common forms of interviews which include; structured, unstructured and semi structured interviews. A structured interview is based on a list of questions that are used every time the interview is conducted, with other activities being standardized between the respondents. An unstructured interview is a little inform of structured one where the interviewer may change the questions according to the conversation. Another hybrid is a semi-structured interview where interviewer has at least approximate directions but is able to respond to in-depth answers.

Preparation

As it has been mentioned successful interviews always entails preparation. These strategies include scanning through the resumes, identifying the role or research aim and purpose of the interview and come up with appropriate probes. Preparation is first undertaking background research about the organization or topic of the interview, developing answers to potential questions, and coming up with questions for the interviewer.

Communication Skills

In addition, there is great emphasis on the role of listening, which should be performed by both, an interviewer and an interviewee. An interviewer has to pay attention to what participants responding to, as well as their gestures and intonation. That way the interviewer has both the opportunity to gauge the content as well as the self assurance and actuality of the answers of the other candidate. Then from the interviewers’ side, appropriate things like being straight-forward, concise in questions and focusing on experience and skills which could be relevant in the job as well as being friendly and cheerful should also be important.

Evaluation

Indeed, the effective evaluation after interview is vital. Human resources management should compare the outcomes of interviews, and on the basis of this, consider more the norms and criteria and skills, experience, or particular traits of character, self-organization, communication abilities, and compliance with the organisational culture. Interviewees should be able to make some kind of analysis over what they did wrong or right and be able to prepare for the next interview.

Therefore, interviewing is a valuable function that necessitates great preparation, good interpersonal skills, and keen examination of what is said. In this case it supports the decision making process for both acquirer and target.

Effective meetings

Coordinated meetings are essential organizational determinants since they facilitate communication, decision-making and problem solving. In order to optimize the achievement of the intended out-comes of meetings, there are certain practices and measures to be taken.

First, goals have to be set before the meeting. It must be most time clearly stated to all the participants so that they know what is expected out of them and all contributors. It makes the discussion sharper, and it is impossible to waste time on political issues, which might occur with large groups.

Second, an agenda of major topics for the meeting should be pre.drawn up and possibly circulated prior to the meeting. It should state what issues will be discussed, the duration each issue will take and who is going to be responsible for what. This lets the participants to be ready and well disciplined throughout the meeting and avoid delays.

In a meeting it is equally advisable to manage time appropriately. Make sure that the meeting is punctual, and keep time for each agenda on the meeting’s schedule. There should be a specific team member responsible for managing the discussion, steering it to the necessary direction and making certain that each member of the team has equal chance for sharing his or her opinions. They should also be able to control any sidetranging problems that may come up, to avoid straying from the main meeting agenda.

The other important area of meeting management is to foster participative or productive attendance. People’s voices and ideas should always be respected when it comes to meetings. This can be achieved by using questioning techniques that allow the group to think for themselves, encouraging ‘shy’ participants to share their ideas and ensuring that all work as a team.

Last but not least, one should wisely determine the list of key actions/decreisions and responsibilities declarations, as well as corresponding timeframes at the end of the meeting. This makes them answerable and offers a guide on what next course of action to take. After the meeting conclusion, whether in form of minutes or reminder checklists, it is critical in underlining and follow on, that did happen.

Therefore, if meetings are well organized, scheduled, effective time is utilized, attendees are encouraged, and follow-ups are instituted, then they are very useful.

My Dream Job

From my early childhood, I developed passion to the world of business and entrepreneurship. My dream job therefore is to be a businessman of my own company that will positively transform the market it operates in. In my mind I picture myself creating a successful business venture that is also one that is beneficial to the society through creating unique solutions to market demands.

Being a businessman, I consider it important to build an enterprise that corresponds to those principles – honesty, inventiveness, and perseverance. I also need to develop the culture that the employees would like to work and be motivated for helping the customers increasing the chances of receiving excellent service and value. I want to uncover the areas in which I can introduce changes, analyze possible problems, and fulfill the customer’s demands, whatever industry I work in: retail, technology, etc.

My business goals are rooted in the need to grow as a person, and to support myself financially. My goal is to have an organization where management, planning and decisions are made to achieve a consistent upward trend in the company’s progress. Another essential element on my dream job is leadership, or the idea is to draw and nurture a team of like-minded and hardworking people.

For this dream to work, I am willing to learn and gain as much experience as possible. In Fleming college, I’ve been learning about business and they say it is about how to market products, how to plan for finances and how companies manage themselves. The current work I am doing at Circle K also entails my practical experience that makes me to inculcate more skills such as customer relation, group work, and creativity while solving a particular task.

Reflecting on how I’ve matured from a confused college graduate to a young adult on the way toward finding and successfully practicing my dream occupation, I realize how much I have changed.
