I have a lot of favorites. Notice and Wonders are my best "go to" lessons. They are quick, they engage kids and teach them something new, AND they encourage deeper thinking and conversations that then carry over into subjects like math. But my favorite lesson from the past year was Thankful Letters from Inanimate Objects. We had so much fun with this lesson and laughed so much. We also found ways to make people in our building feel special with thankful letters.

One of my favorites is actually a series he uses to introduce students to the use and understanding of Kaplan's Depth and Complexity. I love using these each year with my students to introduce each prompt.

Create a Creature-Students developed a realistic (but fictional), creature that could really have lived in the biome of their choosing. It featured adaptations based on real creatures that actually do live in that biome; then we filled in a sheet with 3 fun facts, listed some descriptive words, wrote either a joke, song, or short story, thought about an unusual characteristic; then made a Flipgrid to share it with the class. Fun stuff indeed!
