Repetition in music is not an example of the exact same song or tone. It is not an unchanging tone, over and over again without evolution. In music repetition and variation coexist. Repetition often leads to length, to expand the idea, the idea of dividing the record into a part one and two. Ratliff expresses how music is a game between the performers and the audiences, then performers again. For a lot of people music has to be recognizable, in some sort of content. I agree with Ratliff that music is a repetition. Musical repetition keeps the audience interested in the music and also in the music that is similar to it. Which this music will more than likely have a musical form or the same repetition. Would ya would ya baby by Jackson 5 exemplifies the musical concept Ratliff is expressing by having a repeating concept of the same in the song. And the story of the song is constantly being repeated throughout the song. Another song that exemplifies this musical concept in 1+1 by Beyoncé. In this song she constantly explains how without love, they two people in a relationship has nothing else. She uses different examples, but always repeats her message throughout the song.
