Later on, convinced by his cousin, Grosz attended weekly art classes. He developed skills by drawing drinking scenes of Eduard von Grützner and drawing imaginary battle scenes. In 1909, he studies at the Dresden Fine Arts Academy for two years. Later on in 1914, Grosz volunteered in the army but was discharged a year later after he was hospitalized for sinusitis. Grosz was against German Nationalism and was arrested and charged multiple times for offending the military and joining the German Communist Party. He quit the German Communist Party in 1923. He moved to America just before Hitler came into power. He taught at the Art Students League until 1955. His drawings correspond around corrupted businessmen, wounded soldiers, prostitutes, sex crimes and orgies. After he moved to the United States, his art style changed. He started painting conventional nudes and many landscape watercolors.
